D&D (2024) D&D Direct Will Talk About Project Sigil & Future of D&D on Aug 27th

D&D Direct is an official live-streamed event which will take place on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 9 am PDT (5pm BST).

The event will talk about the future of Dungeons & Dragons, and the Project Sigil 3D virtual tabletop.

Given how Fey-focused WoTC has been as of late, it's surprising that they haven't put out a book focused on the fey, detailing the archfey like the Queen of Air and Darkness. I can very much see this being on the docket!

If WotC wanted to publish a book about feys... Witchlight should be oficially introduced as a new setting, but please, not three book togethers, because I don't want to buy adventures.

I doubt to see more sourcebooks about crunch without previous UA articles.

Really? That's pretty rude.

No, it wasn't.

Bruce Heard, not the creator of Mystara, but probably the most important and prolific contributor to the setting, approached WotC about doing an official 5E version of the setting. I don't remember if he hoped to partner with WotC directly, or wanted to license the setting. WotC told him "no".

Disappointing for fans who love Mystara for sure, and disappointing for Heard who still has a lot of love for the classic setting. But rude? No. Just a business decision . . . and probably one with good reasons.

Silver lining (unless I've got my timeline messed up) . . . this led to Heard developing his own setting inspired by what fans liked about his approach to Mystara, "Calidar". Ended up with a few successful crowdfunding campaigns and a pile of books. Might even be still going . . .

Honestly, I don't see any reason not to announce "we are working on an Eberron prodict", say, since people will know the score if a UA dropped with Warforged, Kalashtar, Construct-only Origin Feats, and Dragonmarks.

Though most of what they are likely to announce, Adventures, would bit even need any UA.

I would love a Fey focused book but I think with a Thay adventure in the wings an undead themed book seems more likely first. Maybe a Szass Tam‘s guide to Undeath to go with a Thay adventure.

Honestly, I don't care too much about the order, I just hope the Fizban/Bigby style Monster Type books continue for at least a few books more: I don't think a dedicated Ooze or Beast book is necessary, lol, but coverage for most of the 14 Types would be welcome.

I thought Van Richten counted as the undead guide?

I'd be thrilled to have another boatload of creepy undead, for sure.

I can easily picture a book about elementals and and the elemental planes. It would not only have all the planes from MotP, but it would add many more. Instead of a paltry single Plane of Ice, it would have a plane for each of the know solid phases of water. Can you imagine how exciting it would be to have The Para-Elemental Plane of Very High Density Amorphous Ice? I probably should apply for that design position at WotC.
