Who knows, maybe only the primeval owlbear is a monstrosity?!
As an aside: I keep meaning to run a campaign where every monster is unique. There is ONE owlbear, there is ONE bullette, etc...

I've been wanting to do that with dragons. But yeah, it would work well for an ancient Greece-style "mythical monster" game.

Yeah! I mean, practically, within any given campaign, how often do you throw owlbears at the players? There are sooo many monsters in D&D, between 50 years of official and unofficial content . . . even if every monster was unique, you'd never run out!

Owlbears are the classic Monstrosiity, so it makes sense.

Yeah. Plus, I don't think the movie is really going to have as much of an impact on the TTRPG design as BG3 has. The fact that the CR 2 owlbear isn't in the 2024 PHB creature appendix but the CR 4 elephant is speaks volumes.
