D&D (2024) D&D Monster Manual (2025)

Some did... some didn't. What were the many points of DM interaction for using Honor... or Hero Points... or how about any of the proficiency variants. You're selectively choosing options to fit your narrative.

See above.

Well if your players treat you as a waiter I feel sorry for you. On the other hand I plan on collaborating with my players on their bastion as well as homebrewung a few options I want them to have for it.

And I'm sorry you didn't get what you wanted but after ignoring the 2014 rules for monster creation and seeing nothing but complaints about them... I'm glad they gave us a new tool to play with.
I'd rather they addressed those concerns and improved the existing tool rather than tossing it as a public option and slotting in a new tool in its place, but what can you do?

Seeing as the game functioned fine without them... I think it was more than marketing gimmick. Also... I'm not sure what relevance what you personally saw them as has on whether they were a marketing gimmick or not....
Those are separate sentences. I often talk about my personal preferences regarding a subject being discussed. Rather the main point of a forum IMO.

They got some of the rules wrong and some of the rules were not read by fans because the 2014 only dedicated 10 pages to monster creation.

My estimation is that WOTC would have to dedicate at least 16-20 pages to monster creation from scratch to do a good job.

My belief simply is:
I don't think WOTC was willing to dedicate 20 pages with art to teaching people to create 2024 monsters from scratch.

Yeah. If you are going to do something, do it right.

The consequence of that is choosing to not do it at all if you don't have the resources to do it right.

Ok

My point is you can do a good job in 4 pages (probably less). Can you do a perfect job - no. I don't think that is possible. But you can do a good job I think. When the 2024 MM comes out I am going to develop my own little guide and see how concise I can get it.

I plan to have fast creation rules (about 1 page) and complex / full creation rules (somewhere south of 10 pages I hope).

I think using existing monsters as starting points and examples will result in more accurate and easier monster building than 4 pages of instructions.

A worthwhile guide to me is ~20 pages and it is easy to mess it up too.

You can still buy it and by the time it's unavailable we may have a book of options replacing it... it could be available via DM's Guild or some other method. The point is if you really want those options in a DMG they are easy to get a hold of.
by buying a second book… this will always be a matter of preference. I do not like the bastion rules, so ‘sacrificing’ them is a no-brainer to me. If that is not enough space yet, get rid of GH too. As you pointed out, there are options for either already available

I certainly see either as less ‘core’ than what was thrown out

I definitely think bastions could have been cut. But I think adding greyhawk was a great add and very helpful to new DMs. More so than either bastions or monster building rules are.

I certainly see either as

And for me since I rarely if ever created a monster from scratch in 5e... I prefer to have the bastion rules, Greyhawk (since a few of my players are finally ready to dip their toe into DM'ing) and more ready to play/modifiable monsters.

I have no interest in Greyhawk and while I’ll probably use Bastions a lot, I’ll probably drastically alter how they work. I am constantly using the Monster creation rules so I would have liked an update to them. I do not agree with the notion that having bad guidelines is worse than having no guidelines.
