Don't have access to the facebook stuff on the computer I am currently on (sorry, I will probably have a different time sometime next week, but right now confined to this one).

Anyone able to summarize the timeline?

I dunno, I just watched a reaction video to Queen's 1985 Live Aid performance, which was an extended video, including not only Queen's set but the encore at the end of the night from Brian May and Freddie Mercury. Which I had completely forgotten about.
Then this post reminds me that in 1985 I was still unaware of who FASA, GDW and West End Games were.
:(

6 and 7 are contradictory.

“6. ICE published Middle-earth RPGs for 15 years. That ended 25 years ago; three more publishers have since taken up the mantle.”

So an official adaptation of Middle-Earth for RPGs existed in 1982...

“7. The first unofficial adaptation of Middle-earth for D&D happened in 1974 with OD&D; the first official adaptation happened in 2016, 42 years later.”

Read it again. You're missing an important word in the second one.
