D&D Wargaming *ARMIES OF EVIL*

We'll need to re-CR the shade template accd to UK's doc. Have you taken a stab at it yet?

Since I don't actually know what most of its special abilities do, no. I picked Shade for role-playing reasons, and though I've found some of the information on-line the special abilities continue to elude me. If one of you would happen to own the MoF book I would be grateful for that information.
If anyone could e-mail me the 3,0 Shadow Adept (FRcS) I would be eternally grateful.

Shadows are only CR 3.5 in column 4 of UK's doc.

So they are, as shown in my latest posting of my legion. I'll edit my other posts.

Base wealth for PC's (if you pay for it, which you have) is level^3 * 100gp. (i.e. Lvl1=100)

Ok, thanks for saving me some much needed wealth.

OldCrowe, until we get a ruling from Fieari, I can only tell you what we've been doing so far:

1) Races that are stronger than PC races (Drow, Hobs, Bugbears) cost their listed CR and keep their racial HD (in the case of 1hd races that hd is Warrior). Further PC levels are then stacked on top.

2) We have not been re-applying the golden rule after applying templates.

If that is the ruling, I can live with it, seems kind of wonky, things are WAY biased in favor of PC Races, which is unfortunate, as I thought we were supposed to have a monstrous feel to us.

As for not applying the golden rule after templates...the golden rule is supposed to be applied AFTER all factors have been totalled. There was no "reapplying", as a PC Race doesn't count towards CR. This is the way I read it, and it makes sense to me. Certainly, can be powerful, but there is no way a Half-Dragon Human Fighter1 is a CR5.25, that just doesn't make sense. Applying the golden rule after the template though, and the Half-Dragon Human Fighter1 is a CR3, which is a lot more reasonable.

But, in anycase, I am not here to make waves, I am here to play a game and have some fun, so I will go with whatever Fieari says, and prepare a non-problematic version of the army just in case.

Cheers,

C. Rowe

We've pretty much been making this up as we go along.

Your numbers look fine to me, but it's going to be a p.i.t.a. tracking CR fluctuations (due to the golden rule) as you level. Paying for it up front just makes the math easier.

Also, the PC-centric bias is handled by the Silver Rule (which we're using).

Doh! You deleted the post with the details on the shade class.
If you repost that info I'll help you figure out the CR adjust for it.

Hmm, shadows aren't smart enough as the base creature for a spellcaster, but you could start with a CR 4 wraith (+4 Int!) and stack 11 or so wizard levels on top.

I can certainly see your point about leveling and CR fluctuations, this is something I saw as I was doing it. I think the easiest answer is to go along with what's been working so far. My army is due for another overhall anyways.

Alright I'm going to try and determine my XP

The Dragon is CR15 so I'm going to say he's level 15 which is 105,000 XP
To get to level 16 he needs to have 120,000.
My Dragon has 112500 with 7,500 to go before next level

My Mephits are CR3 so I'm going to say they're level 3 which is 3,000 XP
To get to level 4 they need 6,000 XP
My Mephits have 4500 and need 1500 XP to get to next level.

My kobalds, I have no Idea since they have a partial CR, If someone could tell me what kobalds have and need to level up that would be great.

Also, could someone explain how Feats work when monster get levels. My dragon gets a feat per 4 hit die, but he is going to take levels in monk which get a feat at 1st level, 3rd level, and every 3 levels thereafter. When do I get feats?

Hey Fieari have you read the monsters as races part of the errata.

Two things that caught my eye. Starting wealth for monster PCs and starting ability scores for monster PCs. Please read it as it could have a major effect on my character.

You're missing part of the equation. CR15 != Lvl15.
Each PC level is only .8 CR*. CR 15 is Level 18.75

Level 18.75 is 166,406xp. To reach level 19.75 you need 185,186xp.
Your current xp is half-way between at 175,781xp.

Alternately, if you instead want to increase your age category to Juvenile (CR 17, level 21.25) you need to reach 215,156xp.

*The other .2 expected CR per PC level is due to equipment, which in UK's system has been decoupled from character level.
