[D20 Future] Starship Rules

the second death star was approximately 500 miles in diameter according to theforce.net

this would make it roughly 5280 1" squares across in the d20 future system.

you would need a 440 ft battlemat to put the second death star on it.

what scale does Star Wars d20 use for space combat?

tell me how the fights go. I picked 10km but that was just a start size. I am looking for the best size, and yes 500' is a bit silly due to the size of sapce but some like it. As you can guess I am not one of them.

So a 500' point defense system and 100km squares, hum that just dropped the impact of those some what.

Also are you having missiles hit/ miss the round they are fired or are you going to treat them as a tiny space craft and have them move to the target over some rounds of combat? 100km, or for that matter 10km is pretty big.

I agree most larger ships in most games are pretty big. 600m for a SH is for me only a Light meduim sized ships.

Did you see the size of the space station at the end of, I think, 4th season Andromada? it dwarved the ship. I think they said it was 60km long? But I might be wrong.

Actually 200 meters come out to about 761 feet in imperial measurement. So that's a mediumweight.

So what universe should we based the starship rule on? As I said, each universe is different.

My Bad, I meant feet, but I have been working alot in metric recently, and brain just locked in.

The point being made was that a ships length is not an accurate measure of its size. Mass often works better but is biased against light alloy using cultures, area works, but is harder to calculate as is volume.

Answer, 'damned if I know' :)

Now I want to know what the designers were thinking when they made the defalt scale for space combat 500ft squares. That makes my battlemat about 3 miles square which is absolutely useless for any sort of realistic feeling space combat.
Must be a big battlemat. The wargamer in me would prompt you to find half-inch grid battlemat. ;)

As for the limited space, the way I see it, a ship-vs-ship battle don't take a very large region of space to fight in. But if you run mostly chase encounters, either make the battlemat a floating map (meaning that everytime you reach the edge of the battlemat, reposition the ship counters in the center and continue running; that's how I used to run Star Fleet Battles) or throw it away.

I think I will change it to at least 100km per sqaure and let any reasonable number of ships be able to occupy the same square.
More power to you. After all, the rules are not etched in stone. For me, I'm still thinking of using 200 meters scale for a Star Trek game. That means a Borg Cube (about 5km square) would be about as big as 25 inches on the battlemat.

Gawd, all of these make me hunger for Star Fleet Battles. :p

you will find changing one thing means a lot of changing in the game.

but 250' to 200m is not that big a problem as it is really around 250% from 80m to 200m.

Still that death star is going to take up a lot of room and just how big are those command ships?

prodon me for asking questions about open gaming and such. Maybe you should find a nice dark spot and stay there for a while and have a good hard look at your self and your attitude to life in general.

For the second time, let's keep our comments directed at the topic, not the other users, hmm?
