And if d20F contains rules for spaceships, cyberstuff, robots, and mecha, that pretty much covers most futuristic categories. I guess we could see books of premade stuff.
Ok guys, this might sound rude (I'm directing this comment at King of Old School as well)- *and* this portrays my bias as a 3rd party writer.
However the idea that d20 Future will be SO complete that it will leave NO room for mechanical crunchy supplements makes me wonder if people have lost their minds.
Let us run this book down shall we? (And I know no more of it that anyone else at this point)
Spaceships, cyberware, robots, mecha, mutations, tech levels, aliens, and 8 campaign models.
224 pages.
Yeah there's going to be NO holes left to fill (man I really miss the ability to roll my eyes right now).
This book sounds like its going to be very good, like d20 Modern.
However, just a look at what it purports to cover, and the pagecount, tells me it paints with a VERY broad brush, like d20 Modern.
You could technically say that d20 Modern covers, military, martial arts and horror games. Oh wait I did books on all those that people think help them run those games!
There are people (like Takyris) who run those games filling in the holes themselves (of think there are no holes). However, my sense is that most people will want a little help in the way of a sourcebook before they run a campaign heavily devoted to any one of those areas.
Holes isn't a bad thing. d20 Modern is shockingly complete. At every turn I find the groundwork laid for the game to handle genres *I* am just thinking of taking it to.
However, the idea that this book will cover cyber, mecha, mutations, robots, starships with no room for expansion *and* include 8 campaign models. In 224 pages?
Completely?
That's 17 pages per subject.
Wow.
Chuck
PS I am perfectly happy writing d20 Modern books, so my opinion doesn't stem from any desire or perceived need to do d20 Future stuff.
