[d20 Future] This is what I am afraid of...

Yes there is. I finally got a game started of it. Cool stuff! (And this is coming from an old Traveller fan who pretends TNE doesn't exist). My players really dug the chargen. It could use a few more chargen option, but that should be handled soon enough.

Oddly enough, it seems to be about the only force in futuristic/SF d20 material at RPGnow:

Of course I'll plunder D20 Future for stuff to add to my T20 game. ;)

I think my joke was that there already is a T20, but if you don't like it, you can make your own! Hence Traveller d20 Future. T20 is also known as Traveller d20.

Heck, the only guy who piped up about trying to get a setting out got chewed on because he was going to rush it out right after getting the d20F book.

No, he didn't get "chewed out", at least not by me. I asked a legitimate question as a consumer about having enough time to playtest before release, and he answered it to my satisfaction.

I have no real dislike of you or any of the others who posted in that thread, but saw a trend that was beginning to look ugly and moved to block it.

But, if you will look back at that thread, you will notice you didn't ask a question. You posted an opinion. There is nothing wrong with that, and gods of gaming be my witness, I've made comments just like that in my past. Keep in mind though: You made a decision and posted your opinion, not asked a question.

Yours, by itself, was not the problem: It was the trend the conversation once you posted your message.

Any publisher who read that thread has now probably cooled down from the idea of trying to get out a quick release, and that probably IS a good thing.

Sorry if a rubbed you the wrong way. My comment was directed toward explaining that I (opinion, I do not see the future) thought that d20Future material would be thin for the first few months.

Don't forget Skills, Feats, and Equipment.... Those will likely chew into the page count, as well...

I have a feeling that D20 Future is going to do for Future Genre RPGing exactly what D20 Modern did for Modern Genre... It'll lay the groundwork with a nice solid foundation for 3rd party publishers to build into something grand.
I should hope so, anyway...

You're not going to see a lot of publishers talking about d20 future until they get to see it. Since WotC decided not to give a preview of the rules to 3rd party publishers, it pretty much put a damper on any quick releases.

Why do you say that WotC decided not to show the rules to publishers? They obviously showed the rules to someone:

We had originally planned to make use of d20 Future in our Red Star Campaign Setting book. Once we saw the rules though, we realized that the material in Future wasn't necessary to properly adapt the comic so now it only requires d20 Modern.

So are GR getting special treatment?

Some of the Game Mechanics were upset that certain D20 companies promised to write D20 Modern material and then never got around to it. They didn't give names of those companies however, at least not on their messageboards.

Maybe Green Ronin didn't break promises - they certainly publish D20 Modern stuff, in any event.

I know I like to toot my own horn (and play my own synth) around here... but I know for a fact that Kiln Publications will be releasing at least one supplement for d20 Future - but it's at least a year out unless I get serious on writing and spend less time in the studio (which is unlikely at the moment).

Anyhow, I'll be writing a supplement based on a small, lost-in-space, Earth colony set around 2287 AD. That's all I can say... other than there will be at least one new species of aliens that I think is fairly original!

Huh? and what does that have to do with WotC giving companies previews of the d2 future rules?

Fool me once shame on you; fool my twice shame on me.

Joe Schmoe d20 publisher: "If you give me a copy of d20 future, I'll develop something to support it..."

WotC: "Sure you will... just like you did last time?"

Of course, I don't see them being too equitable in this or this being particularly wise in this -- considering that enough publishers are dubious since d20 Future requires d20 modern, they can use all the support they can garner to sell their book; in comparison, the risks of someone scoring a preview is minor.
