d20 Modern: Over the Edge (recruiting done, but still open)

Alright, 25 point buy it is, with 4th level characters. Officially any of the advanced classes are open, though as we've established earlier, a gunfighter is probably going to end up with an inferiority complex.

Eldorian, you'll be able to learn most of what I've already said. Well, the social/government aspects of it, at least. You will also have discovered the following:

The island has several small cities, Traboc, Skylla, Freedom City, and the Edge, so named because it stands just over the edge of the cliffs on the western end of the island that overlook the sea.

Monique D'Aubainne established the island in 1940 as an independent democratic nation, though it is really more of a cross between anarchy and monarchy (D'Aubainne's word is law, but she typically keeps to her own agenda). Al Amarj has no connection with the United Nations, and has no embassies.

The island has prospered under her rule, mostly due to international trade - drugs, bootleg/knockoff goods, and extremely wealthy tourists seem to bring in a steady flow of revenue.

That's about all you are able to find out, though it should be noted that even this little information was highly difficult to discover, while booking passage was surprisingly simple...

Great. Rough outline of my character: Strong hero gang member, with (until recently) latent psionic ability. Currently on the run from unsavoury types.

I've got to go off-line for this evening, but I'll get a more detailed concept posted tomorrow afternoon.

I'm game, if you'll have me. I'm thinking tough hero, going for either brawl or martial arts chains of feats.

Central Trait: Tough as nails (can take several bullets and keep running, at least for a while)
Side Trait: Bloody-minded (never gives up if set on something)
Side Trait: Tight-lipped (good at concealing information)
Flaw: Terminal illness (of a greater or lesser immediacy)

Being terminally ill, he's willing to do lots of things. He doesn't so much not care about dying as he's not paticularly concered. You win some, you lose some, y'know? Works at an office job by day, and moonlights as a bouncer, during which he takes plenty of chances with dangerous patrons and muggers, for a combination of the rush and helping out those in danger.

That's the basics. Might be straight tough, with maybe levels of daredevil.

WOOOHOOO, 2 flavors of meat to stand between the us smarty types and the guys that want to hurt us. =)

I'm at my parents house for the weekend, but I should be able to get the character made sometime monday night.

Concepts sound good, guys.

Thomas, are you familiar with OtE? If you are, your character sounds like a shoe-in for an Al Amarj native. If not, your character's probably heard of somebody on the island whose research might actually lead to a cure for your illness and have come over to find him/her.

Oh yeah, and with that, we've hit our magic number for players. Recruitment's over, but if one or two more people are interested in joining, I'll certainly be willing to bring them in.

Thomas: Unfortunately, the only easily accessible info suitable for players would be in the print products, especially the Player's Survival Guide. I'll tell you what though, if you want to be a native, I can clue you in on anything you'd be familiar with, and we'll assume you know your way around town, including who and where to avoid.

If you work an office job by day, you probably either work in one of the businesses in Golden Barrio in the Edge, or commute to the neighboring city Traboc. As far as bouncer gigs go, there's various nightclubs and bars all over the place, especially in Broken Wings Barrio, though the most notorious (and rowdiest) would be Sad Mary's Bar & Girl in Flowers Barrio (not only do they take plenty of bouncers, but there's prize fighting there every night).

Edit: Oh yeah, I did find something that could help somewhat. I happened to run across a site that had some fairly useful information here. Take everything there with a grain of salt, though, not all of it's accurate.
