d20 Modern: Over the Edge (recruiting done, but still open)

Jarval: Looks good. It probably would have been better for me to roll your wealth increases, but we'll keep your rolls. I had originally planned on most everybody coming to the island at the same time and was about to say something about having a knife, brass knuckles, and a bike, but I've just thought of something much better. Your character has been in the Edge for a couple of days, and you've easily picked this stuff up in that time. You've spent most of the past two days in your room at Cesar's Hotel in Sunken Plaza, trying to lay low. Cesar's isn't cheap, however, and you'll probably need to find a new place soon; especially without any money coming in.

ErichDragon: Rolled 4, +4 for occupation, +2 at second level (DC 13, rolled a 10, +5 for skill, +3 for wis), +4 at third (DC 15, rolled a 17, +6 for skill, +3 wis), no bonus at fourth (DC 19, rolled a 1), making your final wealth... 14.

Orochi: Didn't catch you on that, but you should probably have some ranks in a profession.

Don't even worry about it. I should have made some mention of it before you had made your character, and I'm trusting your rolls, so it's not an issue.

Appearance:Richard is short and stocky- built, basically, like a brick wall. During his day job, he wears the standard white-collar business suit; off duty, or while working at a club, he wears a black leather jacket, blue jeans, and a t-shirt. His hair is short and brown, his eyes blue and flinty. He's in his early 30's.

Personality: Richard is quiet and selectively stubborn. If something is amenable to him, he'll quietly go along with it. If he sets his mind for, or against, something, you'll have an easier time bending a horseshoe than changing his course of action. This tends as often as not to end well, as the things he sets his mind to are rarely dangerous enough to seriously injure him. That's the other thing- he's tough, and he knows it, and so he easily takes risks that other's wouldn't.

Backround: Richard's parents were middle-class Europeans (from England, specifically) who are second-generation Al Amarjans. His parents were both businesspeople, with differnt specializations and in different companies, and Richard grew up in a comfortable and boring existance.

He was never paticularly bright, but through the intellectual equivalent of brute force he managed to slug his way into a degree in accounting. He settled in at a large firm in the Golden Barrio, and was ready to live out his life as a coporate drone. Then, during a doctors appointment, they found something odd. A week and several batteries of tests later, Richard was diagnosed with a rare terminal illness. All that the doctors knew about it was that when the end came, it would be sudden, and they didn't know when the end was coming.

Richard thought long and hard about his life after the discovery. And then he went in to the worst part of town and picked a fight.

It was the best expierince in his life so far, and what's more, he won. Or at least, he was concious by the time the police showed up to haul him off, which was more than you could say for most of the people in the bar. After several goes at this, he decided, in his slow, logical way, to be more efficient about his fights, and got a gig at Sad Mary's Bar and Grill, working as a bouncer and prizefighter. He's gained a reputation as a very steady fellow, and willing to lend a hand, or a fist, or an elbow, to one in need.

edit: could someone check my hitpoints for me? I think I've gotten them right, but it's late and the typos I keep making convince me maybe my math isn't so good either....

Thomas: First roll: (DC 11, roll 3 + 4, -1 wis) +1 Wealth, Second roll: (DC 12, roll 16, + 4, -1 wis), +2 Wealth, Third roll: (DC 14, roll 8, +4, -1 wis), +1 Wealth. Total wealth: 10

Apart from Eldorian, I think everybody's almost ready. If you all get your background details knocked out, we can start, and Eldorian will be able to jump in pretty much any time during the game.

Actually, I'm sorry, but I don't think I'll be able to play for a few weeks. Finals and all, and I have too many projects. Would it be ok if I join in later?

Eldorian

Eldorian: That's perfectly fine. It'll be quite easy to work you into the game after it's started.

Thomas: From what I can tell, you should have 54 hit points.

Alright people, I'm going to go ahead and get this thing started. Tonight I'll have the opening post done. If any of you have anything left to do for your characters, go ahead and take care of it and then feel free to post.

Edit: Beginning post is up here.

HP edited.

Couple of things-

1)How are my traits being handled? Tough as nails seems to be mostly handled by my feat and talent choice, bloody-minded seems more of a roleplaying thing, and terminal illness is not obviously something I'd know about. For tight-lipped, a bonus to bluff checks to not accidentally reveal information seems good.

2) I recently purchased the Modern Players companion pdf from the Game Mechanics (definitely worth the 5 dollars!), and they have an Enforcer advanced class in there that looks perfect for Richard next level. Mind if I e-mail you the crunchy bits, to make sure it's ok with you? Or would you rather keep this "core"?

To be honest, I'm not really sure how I'm going to work out your traits; at least, I'm not completely decided. What I'm thinking is probably a bonus to your defense, like +2, along with considerations in role-playing.

As far as tight-lipped goes, I can go with bonuses to avoid revealing info.

Your terminal illness will probably act as a motivation; if worst comes to worst, the prospect of a cure could serve as my carrot to bait you with. On top of that, it could start acting up at absolutely perfect times to make things nice and tense...

Go ahead and send me the Enforcer info. I'm pretty much wide open for material (given the spirit of OtE, and the nature of the setting, I pretty well should be...).

Edit: One last thing, I'll be making my next post as soon as Orochi replies. Just want the confirmation before I start rolling again...
