I expected more of the book to be taken up by monsters and such.

To be fair, I gave it literally a 2 min flip through as I cannot handle my house right now and need to get out of here. :D

Gotcha, yeah it's not an entire "Monster Manual" full of creatures (teh first kickstarter 3rd party supplement has been a monster manual of sorts), but the ability ideas and math are pretty clearly provided in the core and Homebrew Kit such that you can make stuff that fits what your narrative needs pretty easily.

I need to just sit down and think about a bunch of exploration/environment stuff and add in an Action and then consequence/Fear spending. Not unlike all the cool 4e traps/hazards (which I should totally rip off…).
I have to admit the one thing I would 100% pay for, for DH, is a big-ass book full of environments, traps, social situations, and so on, by someone who I actually respected the mechanical and thematic competence of, which, with love, is absolutely not the two WotC guys Darrington has hired (I think they'll do fine with creative work... mechanical... maybe get help from someone else).

I suspect I will end up doing it myself or someone online will do it for free.

That kickstarter above has a free sample, if you want to get a gauge on them. And their starter adventure is up for sale.

Note I backed it and may run things to give feedback.
