Daggerheart General Thread [+]

Just played an extremely chaotic in-store game of Daggerheart. I think I like the system, but the GM was new to it, didn't do stuff he was apparently supposed to (there were experiences listed on my character sheet that the GM was supposed to develop, and they were never created or mentioned) and we had multiple players who just spent the entire time disrupting the game and being passive-aggressive toward a table full of strangers. 🤷‍♂️

Hopefully the next game will go better.
Aww, man, that's the worst way to get an impression of a game. Hopefully you get a chance to try it again. What store did you play at?

So for example if you're wearing Advanced Leather Armor at level 6 or 7, reducing damage by 3 points is the same as wearing the Tier 4 Legendary Leather Armor, for the purposes of the Major threshold.

Sure, but the base spread (before you add in your level) of Leather Armor is 11 -> 27 or 16. So there's a lot of numbers in there you could roll on a dice which don't affect the incoming damage's effect at all as far as how much HP you're marking. It's entirely possible that you could have incoming damage numbers such that the entire spell never affects the tier of HP.

I should probably do some play testing with a couple alternatives...

My FLGS, where I had a very good three-week run with Mothership recently. This was a different DM, one who kept stressing how long he'd been doing this, how old his fantasy world was and his expertise as a game referee, all of which are red flags, IME.

I know we have a mutual friend. Are you in CT? I would be happy to run for you and D.

Just for giggles, here's the current Miro board for my Tuesday game 5 sessions in. I love how well this tool works for online gaming from an organizational and transparency perspective.

Ok, so using a level 7 PC with leather and nothing else special going on, vs the basic damage spread of a T3 enemy (3d8+3), 68% of the time Zone of Protection does literally nothing (the overall damage output is already at the Minor threshold and thus -1 to -6 does nothing). This is even worse for chainmail or plate. On top of that, most T3 adversaries are incapable of getting to Severe damage without critting or special abilities.

Depending on the number showing, there's between a 8 to 27% chance that the damage roll of a standard T3 adversary gets moved from Major to Minor by the Zone, going down slightly at level 8 and 9 as the base thresholds increase with level but adversary damage stays the same.

This seems strictly worse in all cases then Restoration at the same level, which will always clear at least 10 Hit Points or Stress?
