Obviously whatever horrible wasting disease has decimated the displacer beast population has mutated.... blech.

It looks like a dragon, a mandrill, and a rat got drunk one night.

Oh my. That's one ugly dinosaur-wolf. It's not that the art is bad, just that it doesn't even vaguely resemble a worg.

I'm terrified at the thought of what the displacer beast looks like. I hope they at least fed it this edition. I'm shocked that WotC didn't face animal cruelty charges with the 3e displacer beast. :D

That's a very poor picture of a worg indeed. I rank that down there with the cow-like dragonnel and WAR's Nycaloth. Terrible! Without a picture of the guulvorg(also bad) being posted, I would have believed this to be a labeling error or something.

The pose is more catlike then canine. The body combines features of bird, reptile and cat. The head, even with the teeth, is more birdlike than anything else. This thing can't be related to a wolf any more than a crocodile would be.

This thing has lats, but I don't see where they attach to the front legs. Does this thing even have flank muscles? The neck seems awfully thin too. Canines, from wolves down to poodles, have strong necks, lats & flanks.

Worgs are supposed to be smart. Where does this thing keep its brain? Certainly not in its head. This thing would have the cranial capacity of a dinosaur.

This art is attributed to Arnie Swekel. I see he's also credited with the Tarrasque and Balor art. The Balor looks more like a wolf than his worg does. Seems he's also predisposed to gaping mouthed side profiles.

Bad. Just plain bad.

In a clever ploy, they classified the Displacer Beast as a "Magical Beast" instead of as a animal. Therefor, animal cruelty rights didn't apply.

You're right that the technique of this art isn't bad. I should have said as much in my previous post.

The problem is purely that it doesn't resemble a worg, canine, or even a mammal.

Keep in mind the guulvorg is a wolf-hybrid created/raised by goblins...I'm personally stunned that GOBLINS could create anything but given that...I can see where goblins would end up wth a creature that doesn't look anything like the base creatures...

Its the first wtf picture for me...definitely not a Worg.

I guess they might be trying to break the association with the Tolkien version, which Peter Jackson mangled further. Along with making a clearer distinction for between Wolf, Dire Wolf, and Worg - though with the new mechanics I would have thought Dire Animals could have simply been dropped.
