Damage Reduction Question

If something has DR x/- does it reduce the damage dealt to it from all sources (regardless of enchancement bonus) by x?

Yes.

Say a critter with DR 20/- gets hit by a Paladin wielding a Holy Avenger, does the Paladin does full damage or his damage reduced by 20?

Damage is reduced by 20 (unless the creature is evil, in which case the bonus 2d6 holy damage bypasses the creature's DR).

If a creature has DR ??/-, then it ignores this amount of damage from any attack form that does not ignore damage reduction. For example, your critter with DR 20/- will ignore the first 20 points of damage from any weapon, no matter how powerfully enhanced, but its DR still doesn't apply against energy based attacks, such as the fire damage from a flaming weapon or the damage from a lightning bolt or fireball.

Also, remember that DR ??/- does not allow you to bypass other creatures DR, even if their DR is also ??/-.
