Damage Scaling

I'm just saying that if the system math takes into account that the PCs have these bonuses and the monsters don't, there is no problem of balance there.
Emphasis mine.

Yes I agree, if the system is designed this way. But we still don't know yet. How can I disagree with you when everything is still unknown?

A lot of people seem to be in the camp of adding 1/2 level to everything, and you are entitled to wish so. I on the other hand hope very much that this is not the case, and I think I'm entitled to my opinion too. One of us is going to be disappointed and we'll only know next June for sure.

Of course, if the math is balanced, I'm going to be fine with it.
Well, if that is the case, we can assume the math is balanced. So, hopefully everybody will be happy! :D I don't mind either way really. It just seems to make sense to me.

It's a question of preference, yes :).

If I make an analogy with a price tag, if we make a poll and ask: How do you like your price tag, tax included or not? There's a big chance we'll get a 50/50 response. But if 4E use a different system for monsters and PCs damage, in one case monsters with hidden +1/2 level included in the damage, and on the other hand PCs who needs to add 1/2 level to damage. I would prefer both be added, it's psychological I guess.

Indeed. It seems simpler for me to have it hidden (along with all the other monster math) and just present a table of various levels and monster damage for the different monster types (brute, elite, minion, etc).

It's too arbitrary to let the PC's do it, but not the NPC's.

Couldn't they have just given it to the Monsters, and given them less base damage? Would be much simpler than giving it only to the PC's arbitrarily. I'm sure abilities will make up for the disparity.

I think people are looking at this from the wrong perspective. Of course higher level monsters will do more damage, and it'll probably actually go up faster than one per two levels, it'll just be managed on a per round basis, not a per attack basis. The total average damage per per round a monster should do will come from it's level and it's role, actual attack data will be messed with to fix that.
