Dead LIke Me News

Has any one heard if a network was going to pick up the 3rd season of Dead Like Me? I loved that show, and I was real torqued to hear it wasn't coming back. :( Anyone Know Anything About This? Thanks!

You're a tease, sir. By your title, I thought you had some news for me!

I haven't heard anything about anyone else picking up DLM, which is a shame.

Heck, I had to go digging around to find out it had been cancelled in the first place.

I hate to say it but DL has gone the way of the dodo. Mandy Patankin is on some cop show now and it looks like all the other actors have moved on as well. I saw Callum Blue on an episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' fer cripessake. Big bummer. I liked DLM, I loved Carnival and HBO killed that one. Grrr...stupid networks.

While I have an immense hatred for Showtime for consistently cancelling good shows, HBO can not be blamed for Carnivale. There's an ongoing lawsuit alleging the story for the show was plagerized, and after reading one of the depositions (I think that's what the document describing the case is called, but IANAL) it seems highly likely it was. Either way, HBO had no choice but to axe the show.

Just checked, actually it's this tuesday coming up. Only $35 on Amazon btw

It's been out here since last Tuesday; Best Buy had it for $30, too, which was a nice surprise! :)

Laura Harris the actress who played Daisy has just shown up as a character on "The Dead Zone", the daughter of the senior senator from Maine. Not clear if it was a cameo, but it seems like it might be a semi-regular role. Its good to see them getting work. I just hope someone will pick up Mason's & George's actors.

Yeah, Dead Like me getting cancelled was a bummer to me, too. I just finished this weekend watching the season two DVD's, and was sad to see it dropped after watching all the actor interviews saying, "I hope this show keeps running a while." :(

The good news is that I think they left it in a good place; George has attained some Zen, Daisy and Mason are happier, and Roxy found something she's DAMNED good at. At least they finished the darned season, instead of cutting it off at the knees.

If you think Showtime sucks for cancelling DLM, I have to say they're a LOT better than Fox; Fox will cut a show only three or four episodes in!!! It's like the programming directors are scared to death of anything that doesn't build American-Idol-like or Survivor-like ratings inside of a week's time...

A pay channel like showtime is a very different enviroment than a network like Fox is. Ratings for a show directly determine how much Fox will be making from a program. Showtime's income is from subscriptions, not comercials. So the ratings for a program are far less important.

I've done a bit more poking around and it looks like the show was doomed when Robert Greenblatt replaced the man who greenlit the show, Jerry Offsay, as president of entertainment for Showtime. While, it was critically sucessful, ratings for the show were apparently not spectacular. So since it was a pet project of the previous guy it got canned.

I get the impression that this tends to happen when you get changes like this at a network. Awards or such that the program gathers won't benefit the new guy and it isn't doing well enough that there is a reason not kill it. So, if he replaces it with one of his projects, there's a chance that it will become a hit and that will benefit him. So as long as his project isn't a bomb, it's a no loose prospect for him.
