Deadlands d20 In-Character (Turn 1)

Deputy Miller looks over at Dustin, still smiling he says "Well now I an't much of a church goer if you get my drift... beside that Pastor is one weird guy. Travel around in the wilds, getting into trouble... and leaving that sweet little darling of a girl all by her lonesome at his church..."

He seems to be lost in thought for a while and you all notice him licking his lips. At Running Wolf's question he looks over at her smiles again and replies "Why that is just the town drunk Joe, he's sleeping off his latest bottle is all. Ya beat wrong-doers where yer from huh, well now that don't seem right somehow…" With this Deputy Miller smiles and takes a drink of his coffee.

Felix and Dustin, the coffee in your cups is still darn blasted hot, but it smells ok... strong but really hot.

Running Wolf looks over at Deputy Miller coldly. "I would rather be beaten and shamed for my crime than to be caged. You kill his spirit by putting him in there. An eagle not allowed to fly is no eagle at all."

"HAR harhar" Deputy Miller seems to get a good laugh out of this [OCC this is the best I can do for laughing onling :)] and then says "Old Joe a eagle?? Har, har now that is a good one..." he smirks and smiles for a while longer and then drinks some more coffee and sits down at one of the desks...

"So iffin' you don't mind me askin', what business yo'all got with the Sheriff?"

Felix gazes around the room holding the coffee cup tentatively in his hands. He doesn't drink it though, blowing on it and surrepticiously smelling it at the same time. At Miller's question Felix steps forward.

Oh, well, it's kind of a private matter, if catch my drift Deputy.

Tarnation, Deputy Miller. This here coffee's hotter than brimstone. Don't mind if I set it down a spell to cool. Felix places the cup on the table. He makes a mental note to lift it again in a few minutes.

Where you from originally Deputy?

Felix smiles confidently at the big man, his right hand resting at his belt

Dustin straightens up from his perch against the wall, suspicion openly written on his face. A second of realization passes on his face, like a light going on in his head. Now ah realize what's been naggin me. "Ah only asked if ya went ta church 'cuz the pastor never said nothin' about you. Not a word. He said there were two deputies. Becker and Schneider're the names he gave us. Didn't mention no Miller. So ah'm wonderin' who you are? An' how you seem to know the good pastor, but he don't know you? Figured he'd remember how many deputies the sherriff had, 'specially after four years."

He takes a step towards the other man, his face grim.

Damn, the boys's sharp. I didn't even remember that. Felix my boy, you'se gots to stop ogling the women. Felix pulls out his cards.

OCC all of you all got really good Sense Motive rolls off of him right now, default skill checks by the way for Dustin and Felix... something is really OFF about this guy... he hiding something

Dustin Roll 17+0
Felix Roll 19+0
Running Wolf 16+7= 23
Deputy Miller roll 7+1 Bluff =8
I might start showing all of your rolls this way if you want to see them.

"Ah well what I meant to say was... ah well I have been a Deputy for four years and I have know the Sheriff for a long time... I have only been in Billings for a couple of weeks now... not much happening but the Sheriff needed some extra help is all" He stands up from his desk "Yea see what happened is that I once was a miner just north of here and well I wanted to be a deputy... say why don't I go fletch the Sheriff for you folks. Seems like the right thing to do, just so you don't have to sit around doing nothing" With that Deputy Miller heads towards the door.

He comes up fairly close to you Felix as he tries to past out the front door, and just for a second you get a really weird smell like rotten or moldy leaves...

General perception roll natural 20! +Wis 0 =20

NOTE he is not out the door yet, but unless you interpose yourself in front of him or try and stop him he will be

Hmm. Boy with Curls has a point. Thinks Running Wolf. There is more to him than a too-pretty face, then. I wonder-- As the deputy tries to make his way to the door, Running Wolf has had enough with words.

With a fluid motion, Running Wolf grabs an arrow and her horn bow and looses an arrow. She aims it not at the deputy, but at the door jam in front of his face.

[OOC: I *try* to do that - if we go to initiatives and such I understand.]

Felix puts his hand to his nose as Miller passes and inwardly groans as he sees the arrow fly from Running Wolf's bow. Oh hell, here we go. The cards fan out in his hand.

Mr. Miller, I'd suggest you stop and turn around and keep those hands clear of yer gun. I believe we jus'n might have some business with ya after all.

OOC: Felix prepares to wrassle with the manitou and cast a Soul Blast should Miller go for his gun (or try to rip my head off).

Thomas Smith

OOC: Wow! Suddenly the game moves so quickly.

Thomas grabs his Winchester rifle and checks his few belongings before getting off the Iron Dragon. Only a deathseeking fool would steal from a well-armed man, but there has never been a scarcity of fools or deathseekers. My welcome in the last human settlement had dissipated too quickly; caution must be observed.

Thomas steps off the train and surveys the town with slow, methodical precision, noting the location of saloons, banks, general stores and good hiding places. Where did I place the list of needed wares? Departing a location in great haste always drains one's supplies too quickly. Billings seems more populated than one may surmise for a white man's town beyond the Sioux nation. Given the town's size, the law's grip on the town is probably firm and regards well-armed individuals with some...concern. A wise man may debut himself to the authorities before trouble stirs. Besides Pastor O'Donnell left poor directions to his residence. Thomas heads to the sheriff's office, focusing his attention on any disturbances or curious eyes.
