Death Dealer Adventure?

Could someone please fill me in on this Death Dealer stuff, please? So it's some fantasy books (how many) who got comicnized (new word for 'ya) into how many comics?

What's the story, thanks?

But if I had my choice of systems for the Death Dealer series, it would have to be either BECMI or 4E.

BECMI  but sad it isn't legal.

Or just hit the Image comics page about it. http://www.imagecomics.com/archives.php?category=13&month=April&year=2007#112

So Harley. Would you care to explain what kind of players are most likely to play 4e? I do not care if it's a generalization, let's hear it.

[Perception check, DC 15.]

Yikes, that looks like a trap. ;)

I can't tell you what sort of player is most likely to play 4E (young, old, MENSA candidate, otaku, mmorpg'er, whatever).

I can offer an opinion of the sort of player that is least likely to adopt 4E: someone that has spent years playing/house ruling a game that he already loves.

There are many of us who have been gaming for decades now. OD&D, BECMI, AD&D, Warhammer, 3.5, whatever. In our saner moments, I'd argue that most of us we don't think our personal preferences are best, but rather that they are the best systems for our personal tastes, for our own campaigns. Hence, why we defend them so vigorously.

Having run the game at conventions and in play tests, I've really grown to love 4E. But I also don't have a regular home group, so I don't have many reasons to hold on to 3.5. If I did still have my home crew, I'd probably still be playing homebrew L5R or Cyberpunk 2020. And not because Cyberpunk v3 is for suxxors (an entirely different argument there) but because it is the game I know and love.

4E makes my style of DMing very easy and very fun. And I love it for that. But don't let my opinion sway anyone from their favorite system.

Thanks for the interest, guys. It has been great working our way through the world created by Nat Jones and Jay Fotos. They aren't gamers, in the RPG sense, so the world they created doesn't reduce itself to the usual fantasy tropes. Add a heaping dose of blood and grit supplied by Frazetta's artwork, and when you're done you have an adventure that can't be mistaken for any other iteration of D&D.

And, all illusions of pride aside, it does not get any cooler than to write prose that will come behind a Frank Frazetta cover.

I know the announcement is a disappointment to folks hoping for another of Goodman Games' 3.5/1E releases, but I feel strongly that 4E is the right engine for Death Dealer. I'm not ignorant to the sensitivity around "kewl p0w3rz," but until the adventure makes it to your FLGS, you're just going to have to trust me on that count.

Yup how could you make the '14 pieces' chapter from the first novel if not with minions? :)

From the standpoint of trying to provide helpful feedback... there are a number of folks who would normally be your audience for this sort of thing who won't even pick it up and flip through it if it is for 4E. I'm not saying that in an effort to convince you to change the product, etc. Just adding another data point to the total set.

And I am sure there is a bigger number of folk who would not pick it up if it was for 3E or 1E. I think they are making the right choice for the right market. ;)

But do not despair there are boud to be conversions, perhaps on Goodmangames own forums.

Korgoth,

Totally understood. I respect their reasons for not picking it up. And it is a shame because the folks that still know Frazetta are perhaps the least likely to be playing 4E. (Take this as the gross characterization it is. Hundreds, if not thousands, of exceptions exist, many on ENworld.)

But if I had my choice of systems for the Death Dealer series, it would have to be either BECMI or 4E.

BECMI isn't legal. So 4E it is.

Make it to Gen Con, and I'll run a BECMI conversion for you. :)

Setting your gross generalization aside , I would have loved this for Runequest system. ( What is Deathdealer without decapitations and dismemberment, and using said severed member as improvised clubs!!!!)

Death Dealer has a sordid history. The image appeared on the record sleeve to the Molly Hatchet album. It inspired a series of novels that some love and some hate. It inspired a completely different series of comics, at least twice.

There adventures are based of the latest series of comics. The comics aren't based off of anything but the image, but are approved by Frazetta.

You could say Death dealer is the Boba Fett of fantasy literature, he just had a cameo once and inspired a series of fanfic all over. :P

I think this was the original image:
