Speaking as a husband who's been married to the same woman for 13 years now, I think in this situation he may not be expecting any material reward in return.

There are gifts that you give without much thought, like a George Forman Grill, and then there are gifts that take a much larger investment in time or money. In those situations, the biggest reward is watching how happy she is with the gift. As I've sometimes heard, "the expression on your face is thanks enough."

But then again, if he's "hinted" about a special something that he's always wanted, maybe its time to reciprocate. Just don't go out and pick up any item at the store as a show of thanks. Preparing a good dinner and spending time together may be a bigger show of thanks than something he could pick up at the store for himself.

Playstation 3. Wii. His favorite meal at home or out on the town. Beer. Ask him for help "pimping your ride", if he's a car enthusiast, though I suppose that could be interpretted as "I like it but ..." A BBQ with his friends. I assume you and/or he are gamers, so gaming material. His favorite mini or maybe he's been eyeing those Crystal Caste dice.

What I'm about to suggest isn't meant to be an insult, or comedy -- I'm a happily married husband of 11 and 1/2 years...

Take your husband for a ride in your new car. Drive somewhere remote, and then do him on the hood. He didn't get you a car because he wants you to match him in price on his gift, he did it because he loves you. Reward him indirectly with an extra special date night that he won't soon forget. :)

   , I cant stop laughing on that one, caught me off guard while drinkin coffee....lol, I am not tryin to match him or one up him on tha car, just wannha do something that says thank you and I love you. I mean I said it to him and even cried when he gave it to me, I just wanna do somethin extra special for him, though we do live in tha woods and it is easy to find a secluded back road out here...lol.... :o

It's simple. Enjoy the car, and take him along so he can enjoy you enjoying the car.

He gave you the car you always wanted because he wanted to see you happy... so let him see you happy.

today is my birthday. my wife insisted on buying me something, even though we are dirt broke. i told her all i wanted for my birthday was a liitle time alone with her. ;)

no, really, just to spend time with her, focused on each other. and then nookie. :D

Nookie is always a winner there. You can't really go wrong there. Some extra special nookie is a great way to say thanks in my opinion.

I also think that something personalised from you, rather than something you bought from the shop is better too. (no I'm not still talking about nookie here! :D )

That seems like the sort of thing that, given the resources, I'd do for my wife. And I'd not be looking for particular recompense.

Sometimes, you do the big gift to see the recipients eyes light up, and the smile grow, and that's enough.

The other thing you can do is a gift you can't tell him about. Remember what he did here. Remember how thoughtful it was, and how much effort it took. And when he does something that really cheeses you off - remember what he did, and let it pass.
