Destiny of the Valenar

Eliseri will try search for a nice spot to set up camp within the rubble and boulders. If the terrain is too brutal for us to make camp off the road, she will suggest the road. Either case, Eliseri waits for the group to arrive at her location "We must rest the horses and make camp for the night. I found a location for us. I will take first and third watch. No fire, we are only a half day from the Talenta Plains and I don't want to risk the chance of any halfling warbands or raiding parties spotting us if they decide to adventure a little too far from their lands."

"I can handle the second watch, but I fear my skills at scouting are not nearly as honed as Eliseri's. On the other hand, if we were to have an encounter with the Talenta, I could work to avoid hostilities.

I leave the decision to the rest of you."

"I will take third watch, Eliseri," Wll'Xix said, "There is no need for you to exhaust yourself needlessly."

[sblock]Note: We're all elves. The meximum amount of time that we need to rest is 4 hours. If we each take on watch rotation we can all get at least three hours. Then we can go. Elves get more travel time than men.[/sblock]

Eliseri is waiting for the rest of the group as they ride down the road. She has found a somewhat sheltered and easily cleared area just off of the road, with a few large boulders surrounding it and supplying some shade from the heat of the sun. The sun goes down fairly soon after you make camp, and after setting watch, the night goes quietly.

Same travel strategy for the next day?

"Well, we must ride some more today. We should be entering the Talenta Plains by midday. I hope we are lucky enough to have our quiet travels continue," Eliseri says as she mounts her horse and heads out to scout the way.

OOC: Eliseri will travel today just as she did the day before. She will turn back to update the group of anything of note (spotted enemies, spotted ambushes, caravans, etc).

During his watch, Nialan opens and, presuming there is something to read, reads the scroll from the previous days ceremony.

Kindric proves to be a passable rider, though by the standards of the Valenar that does not say much. In camp and on the trail, he quietly avoids Eliseri, though he grudgingly obeys orders of any description.

"So... does anyone other than me speak any of the halflings' tongue? I'm sure you're skilled, Nialan, don't get me wrong, but..." he trails off. Shrugging, he continues, "We've got plenty of time out here. I could coach someone on key words and phrases, if nothing else."

I'm drowning here. How can I get these people talking? he silently ponders.

Nialan: [sblock]OOC: You are short two languages. What two languages other than common and elven do you speak?[/sblock]

Eliseri: [sblock]You set off again just before the rest finish breaking camp to get your head start and scout the terrain. A few hours into your journey, you notice the boulders start to get farther apart, yet larger, with scrubby little bushes often clinging to them, just as the terrain changed in your vision. Just as the sun is rising to its highest point, a bolt whirs from an unnoticed shadow beneath a boulder you just passed, striking your horse deep in its side. Your horse starts to falter as it is seriously wounded. OOC: That was the ambusher's surprise round. You failed a secret spot check opposed by their hide check. In an sblock, roll initiative. [/sblock]

Everyone else: You break camp, with Eliseri riding off just before everyone has finished packing their horses, getting her normal head start. The three of you ride off. A few hours into your journey, you notice the stones start to get both larger and farther apart, while scrubby little bushes start to make occasional appearances.

”I do not speak halfling,” Well’Xix said, guiding his horse somewhat clumsily, ”Perhaps a quick lesson on their speech would be quite helpful if we truly plan to make some sort of alliance with them.”
