I misted up a few times, but no tears fell. Even though I have read the books many times, some of the visuals were especially moving. Pippin singing to Denethor as Faramir charged Osgiliath was incredibly poignant, for example.

I think it was meant as poignaint, but Denethor's inexplicable gluttony was jarring to me, and ruined the overall impact.

"You bow to nobody."

Anytime theres some heavy sentimental dialog or a deep moment between guys (father & son or friends) the flood gates begin to open. DAYM YOU PJ!! :D

Cry? No. But I did get a little misty during Pippin's song/Faramir's charge, and during Frodo's goodbye before he boarded the ship to Valinor.

you cry babies!!!

I didn't ... just almost :).

got close to it though, but I was uncomfortable enough during the long movie that I was slightly distracted (bad cold doesn't help either).

The Last Samurai got me good though ...

No, but that was the closest I've ever come to doing so. Both when everyone bowed to the hobbits at Minas Tirath and at the end when Frodo went on the boat. Had to give my head a shake and clear my throat.

There were a few moments when I did let out a tear or two (and I usually don't cry at movies). Scenes such as Pippin's swearing-in as well as his singing for Denethor (though I'd much rather be swearing at Denethor, the bastard), the haul up Mt. Doom, Elrond stepping aside and no longer interfering in the relationship between his daughter and Aragon, the "You bow to no one." moment, and the last few scenes (the pub, the Grey Havens, and Sam reuniting with his family).

Then again, I can't help but mention the one scene that really moved me in the series. It was the scene in the extended edition (I'm not sure if it was in the theatrical cut) of The Two Towers, when King Theoden tells Gandalf that "No parent should ever have to bury their child." That really hit me hard with Bernard Hill's delivery...that and the fact that my brother spent a good part of this year in Iraq. I'm just glad that he's now home safe and our parents never had to be in that situation.

I NEVER cry at movies. But I voted yes anyways.

Because I had to hold tears back about 10 friggin' times during the movie. Never happened before. My wife and daughter's shirt collars were dripping wet.

The one scene that almost got me was the Rohirrim charge. To see Eowyn and Merry gathering their courage, to charge at about 100 to 1 odds, and to see their masterful charge, that was too much. To see fear in orcish eyes, although they outnumbered the Rohan riders so much, really illustrated well the majesty and power behind a Rohirrim charge.

Man.

Every time I get to the bit where Pip offers his service to Denethor I get misty, and the movie hit me in just the same way. There's something about that gesture, so noble, made without any real understanding of the issues or the dangers, just a spontaneous gesture of assistance and a willingness to serve.

I love Pippin.

Hobbits are the most amazing creatures, aren't they? And pleassseee...don't forget SamWise the Brave...against the Spider.
