Did you reserve a new console?

I just got back from reserving my Wii (and a few games and an accessory) at my local GameStop. I got there forty-five minutes before the store opened, and was the fourteenth person in an available sixteen pre-order slots. I know I'd have gotten one sooner or later anyway, but I still feel intensely gratified. Only a few more weeks to go now! :D

My impression is that getting a Wii on launch day won't require a reservation.

Plus where I plan to buy mine doesnt take reservations. so I'll have to take my chances.

Since my brother is an employee at a big box retailer, I plan to use his employee discount.

Well, there's absolutely going to be more Wiis than other consoles, and I'd say everyone who wants one by the end of the year should be able to get one. But on the launch date, even with the large number shipped, the demand will still exceed the supply.

Well, there will be more Wiis at launch than there were other consoles at launch (mostly because the tech inside isn't all that impressive, so making lots of them in time for launch wasn't a problem). There will be more Xbox 360s (and PS2s, for that matter) than Wiis, I'd bet.

Well I plan on being there when they open on Sunday... so my chances should be good.

Nope. If I can't get a Wii around the launch date, I'll be surprised.

For the PS3, I'll be thinking right up to that week about camping out for one. Although my desire for new PC hardware may override my desire to wait in line to possibly not get one. If I could have pre-ordered online I would have done so already.

I never preorder anything. I've been burned too many times by my preorder not arriving and seeing the thing available to just walk up and buy somewhere else. My friend, on the other hand, is cursed so that whenever he preorders something it is pushed back. Blame him for Zelda.
