Actually this is not to bad - all we used to do is run the steer into a cage, and use the externer arm with the rubber bands on them.... snap them over the "units" and a couple of days later they just fall off no mess no fuss .....

Three words about food (and native Texans will most likely agree with me)

SONIC DRIVE-IN

By far the best darn fast food on the planet. Other notables would be What-A-Burger (Waterburger for you Texans. ) and you West Coasters...there's nothing quite like an In-N-Out Burger.

Apologies for the hijack...

I'd say it's due more to the growth hormones injected into the cattle (and other animals) we use for food.

This is a blatant falsehood perpetrated by the media. Of the assorted hormones used in cattle, most are non-steroidal, and, if they make it into the milk or meat at all (which is questionable in many cases) they are digested with no effect on the human consumer. Physiological effect = Zero. What you need to worry about are the fat-soluble hormone analogs that are in plastics. These are actually harmful, are having a measurable effect on puberty, growth, and breast cancer, but are ignored in favor of perpetuating the myth of "frankenfoods." Which is, after all, much more sensational and ratings-worthy. Ratings-worthy ALWAYS beats newsworthy, the facts be damned.

NOTE: I am a neurobiologist/animal physiologist of an academic nature. I do not derive any of my livelihood from either the biogenetic or plastics industries. Furthermore, I do not derive and profit from the beef or dairy industries and am practically a vegetarian. I do, however, have ready access to the latest research in these fields through my colleagues and a large chip on my shoulder about the media's portrayal of science and scientists. That and their complete disregard for that little thing called the Truth.

That's a great quote. Just moved south, and just found out what chitlins are. *shudder* I'm sure I'll try them eventually, but what do they taste like?
