dising 3.5

First Post
My group is currently playing CoC d20, for which we are sticking with the book as written. However in Sept we are going to be going back to DnD and at that time we will be using the 3.5 rules.

One of the players was absent last week and did not hear the discussion on this so he had some questions about it.

It started off with him stating that he did not like the new rules. When I asked him if he had read the books. He said, a friend of mine. I cut him off and said have you read the books. He said no, but. I cut him off again and said they are laying right there. Pick them up and give them a look don't just go by what other people say.

It really agrevates me when people follow like sheep instead of making their own decisions.

baaaaaaaaaaah

Most of my group is on board with adopting the new rules. Most likely there will be no going back. I dislike the idea of bouncing back and forth between the systems.

Another friend of mine (a fellow DM) who plays with a heavily house ruled version of 2E was just like your player. To shut him up for awhile I told him to read the PHB front to back twice and then come talk to me (I'd also know if he's b.s.'ing me). Heh, most likely when he reads it, if he ever does, he'll switch over.

I think they're that good.

and what is he doing by listening to your suggestion?

it was probably pretty evident to him (b/c you kept cutting him off) what your stance was on the new rules.

let him make up his own mind. just don't listen to him if you don't want to hear what he has to say.

directing him to read the books and conform is not always the only choice.

edit: currently i'm playing in a 3.11ed for workgroups campaign.

We'll probably be sticking with the current edition for the campaign that's running. Perhaps some cosmetic changes, but personally I'm a bit weary about adopting different rules mid-campaign.

 Impressive. Twisting giving someone a choice into the equivalent of allowing them to act ignorantly. You've surpassed yourself, ODiaglo&Demagogue... :p
