Divine Archer PrC (modified Arcane Archer)

Kai Lord

Hero
I'm curious as to what everyone thinks of this:

DIVINE ARCHER

Prereqs: As Arcane Archer but substitute "must cast 1st level divine spells" instead of arcane. No racial limitation.

Class abilities:

1 +1 level of spellcasting class
2 Imbue Arrow
3 +1 level of spellcasting class
4 Seeker Arrow
5 +1 level of spellcasting class
6 Phase Arrow
7 +1 level of spellcasting class
8 Hail of Arrows
9 +1 level of spellcasting class
10 Death Arrow

Hit Die: d8
BAB: As fighter
Saves: As cleric
Skills: 2/level

Imbue Arrow: Can imbue arrow with a divine touch attack spell. If the arrow damages an opponent within one round, the spell effects that creature. Any saving throws allowed for the spell are rolled normally.

Give up 5 levels of spellcasting for FTR BAB for 10 levels and the weak special arrows? Yeah, Right.

Yeah, firing Harm arrows with a fighter's BAB is pretty weak.

vs. Just taking the Reach spell feat and doing it with a touch attack? Yeah.

Well, an arrow has a slightly larger range then the reach spell. I would up the skill points to 4/level just to add a little strength to the class.

Exactly. To say nothing of the fact that Divine Reach makes Harm an 8th level spell.

Thanks for the feedback. A friend of mine mentioned that he wanted to play a druid with Arcane Archer levels and was a bit chagrined when he found out there wasn't a divine equivalent. My main concern with the class as written is the potential for an 18th level cleric to just take two levels for the extra BAB and ability to imbue every single touch spell he has into an arrow.

This is IMHO a lower-powered version of the Arcane Archer, and I like it a lot. The first thing I though of was "wow! Ranger booster!" but it's not really... they would benefit greatly from the arrow enchantments, but don't really have any killer touch-spells to imbue.

Perhaps allow skills and/or bonus Fighter Feats in place of spell progression (partly for Rangers & Paladins who aren't going anywhere with thier spells anyway, and partly because I hate PrCs which give spellcasters a free lunch).

Anyway, very nice.

Druid's can't use bows, and Divine Slinger or Divine Scimitar thrower doesn't sound right. Sorry, that's the breaks.

Unless you let druids use bows in your campaign?

One thing that might be cool is have the +1 spell level every other level for Cleric and Druids (if one allows druid to use bows of course :D ) and have +1 spellcasting level every level for Rangers and Paladins.

The reasoning is gaining one level spellcasting for a cleric is not equalk to gaining one spellcasting level for a ranger.

The druid in question is the equivalent of a druid in Forgotten Realms whose patron is Mielikki. They are allowed all martial weapons, but have to spend feats for any not on the PHB list.
