It seems the whole thing about power gaming is a player problem, im sure people can pull off clerics who worship a concept reasonably.

I actually prefer powergaming Characters, at least then I can get creative and throw some cool stuff and tactical encounters at them since they can take a hit :/

I always make stuff with the coolness factor or RP factor in mind. That its not going to be abused is in the game I play in or in the games I DM more of an unspoken player/GM agreement. Making the most of a character is something different though and I fully support such playstyles. Gives much more room for fun stuff and custom stuff and in turn more enjoyment for the players.

Same obviously goes for char concepts and eventual religion or sources of spells. Just have a preemptive chat with your players or with your GM before going that route so let him know you got it under control or that you arent going to go postal on it. Else GMs will have to do it for you which is never good for gaming.

A friend of mine had Spell and Time domains. Therefore he could prepare Any spell and thus could use it to prepare time stops that were persistent by the time he was...15th level.

Could you please explain how this combo is supposed to work? Without my books to check on the exact rules of Anyspell, I just don't see how this is possible.

I'd like to see the same... I thought Anyspell was spells "up to 2nd level" and took 15 mins to cast.

:\

There are several real-world religions that do not subscribe to deities, or do so but in a very abstract form - Buddhism, Toaism, etc.

Likewise a priest can serve a pantheon rather than a god, or even pay tribute to all gods.

If you want a viable alternative to the 'godless cleric' try the Ardent from Complete Psionic, they achieve power through dedication to a philosophy rather than a deity.

That's correct, werk.

I, too, would like to see this trick. Perhaps it relies on an older version of Anyspell (pre- Spell Compendium)?

BTW, you don't need the Spell Domain to get Anyspell (or Anyspell, Greater) as a cleric. You just need a handy 9th level spell called Miracle. And with a little prep time, you can do great things.... :]

I actually looked it up in the FRCS, I don't have SC on my DVD at work...yet. That should be the first place that it appeared. There is a greater anyspell, but again, limitations.

I guess we need to take Nightfall's assertion with a grain of salt (he's crazy enough to think that real world religions can grant spells. ) Also, a very good idea to ban material that you don't fully understand...as a rule of thumb.

Nuke 'em from space...
