Jehen nodded in reply. "The caves sound like a promising lead, but we'll want to be very careful. With an organization like this, they will have many powerful enemies, and if we were able to generate leads this quickly, other investigators might have done so as well. We ought to be ready, in case the caves are a trap for those who seek to pry into their business..."

Raekz taps the table twice, thinking over what Jehen said. "You're right, but alternatively, if everyone thinks that way too, we could be the first group there just by making haste." The hobgoblin shrugs his shoulders a bit, an imitation of the human body language. "What say you all?" He asks the others.

"I'm thinking I can handle any sort of ambush or trap these cowards will put together. They're probably best at attacking unarmed women and not armed mercenaries" Kaz growls under his breath, his hands rubbing together in anxiousness.

The group of heroes sits in a tight clump among the dingy environs of the dock side tavern, their mugs of ale a bit watered down and tasting strongly of brine. Still, the group knows they're very close to their quarry now and speak in hushed tones on how to proceed.

ooc; okay, that's 3 for moving forward quickly and 1 for moving forward slowly, I'll wait for Alton to chime in (as well as any counter arguements) and then I'll advance the scene.

Alton sits listening to the other arguments before putting his thoughts forward "im as ready as ill ever be, let us proceed, with haste but at the same time with caution"

Their game plan set, the group disembarks from the squat shanty tavern and begins to make their way through the bustling crowds all along this portion of the docks.

Huge mysticaly enchanted cranes continuously haul up goods and laborers, while sending down exports from Sharn, Wroat, and other large Brelish cities.

Leading the quintet, Jehen is very wary of her surroundings, the group sensing her cue put hands to weapons as they stride confidently Eastward.

The crowds start to thin as the Heroes find themselves entering a very destitue area of a very destitute neighborhood; and large cavern opening start to appear to the North, many having naturally formed in the bedrock that supports the City of Towers and some have been dug in.

Following the Bartender's instructions, Jehen is able to lead the group into one of the larger caves; sputtering torches set at randome along the road they follow, showing many small alleys branching off the main throughfare.

Heading further inside, Jehen snatches up one of the torches and leads the group deeper before suddenly turning left after 160'.

The group's nerves begin to tingle a bit as they know they're nearing their quarry and all make ready for any surprises in the narrow alley they now travel; a wet musty smell of collected condensation pervading the place, the very walls a bit damp to the touch in places. The torch light reveals wet wall, streaked with green fungus and then an opening looms to the right.

Coming to a halt there, Jehen shines the torch light forth and those without darkvision in the group see, some 30' away, a large solid looking wooden door. Oddly, there is a large amount of glare coming off what seems, in the very dim light, to be a large metal plate affixed to the middle of the door.

[sblock=those with darkvision]
The door has no handle, nor any knocker. The metal plate is actually three seperate square metal plates set very near one another, there is a single character above each, but you'd have to get closer (or make a really high spot DC) to see it clearly.

ooc; I'm off on a two week vacation starting tonight. I'll have intermitant web access, so keep posting and I'll post resolutions as I can! Feel free to post any sorts of actions, skills checks, or item use you'd like. we're not in rounds or anything, so interact with the scene as you will.

Jehen stood for just a moment, considering the door. The torchlight was too
weak, and flickering badly in the cross-drafts of the passageway, so she took a brief moment to dig her Everbright lantern out of her pack- the steady illumination helped matters a bit. From here, she could see the door, and it strange ornamentation well enough, at least for a start. "Well, I believe that is what we're looking for," she said. "I don't suppose any of you gentleman have a particular talent for mechanical devices..."

OOC: Dump the torch, get out her lantern. While we're doing our initial examination (that is, before we get any closer than our current 30 feet), Jehen will use her at-will Detect Magic to see if the door is warded (in addition to any physical locks, which we'll deal with when we move up).

Alton steps forward slowly "I may be able to help with seeing if this beauty is trapped" he states, proceeding slowly towards to the door.

[sblock="ooc"]
using trap sense, and find trap to locate any possible traps on the door. (let me know what to roll. i cant remember, and dont have the book handy)
[/sblock]

he steps to the door and proceeds to thoroughly check around the edges of the door, the handle, looking for any tell tale sign of a trap.

Looking at his companions trying to disengage the door that is blocking their advance, Raekz does the next best thing he can do: bring out his guisarme and watch the party's back.
