And RPGs can create the same kind of story a football game does. In which case its perfectly equivalent.
Well, You can make a novel out of any RPG stories. But not from a football game. And I mean the game itself. Not the players. It would be pretty boring at all time.

And on the 12th minute of the 1st half, the ball was kicked and grabbed by the opposing team. The player is tackled at the 50 yards mark and now it is time for a new play.... Booooooring! A football match is exciting to watch, not to be tell as a story. That is why there are no books on how football matches occurred. The life of a player or the event surrounding an important match can be the target for novelization/stories. But the game itself????? Nope.

You plausibly could, though write a novel about a football season. People do, effectively, write ... nonfiction novels (or book-length nonfiction narratives) about baseball seasons. I haven't followed football much for ... close to a decade, now, but I have to imagine something similar happens in that sport.

I think, if you don't see how ridiculous a statement like;

"Chess is a game where two people work together to craft a story."

is, then it's hard to have a real discussion. Because I can pull 100 random people off the street, or 100 game designers, and they would agree that the statement seems very skewed towards proving some point rather than using plain language to communicate clearly.

But not the match themselves. Retelling the strong and exciting events of a season is not the same as novelizing a match. Even baseball (god forgive me for that...) matches would not make good novel. Again, I mean the match itself. Not the players or the events surrounding the match. This would be boooooorrrrrinng...

While a RPG game has at least a chance to be a good novel.

No one is claiming games don’t result in stories. It’s just being pointed out that everything else does as well by that definition of story. And that means it’s rather pointless to talk about games producing stories.

I personally would use a different definition of story because of that. And in this definition rpgs (or at least certain ones with certain playstyles) wouldn’t be producing stories.
I don't think it's pointless. With RPGs, unlike boring history(to many), the stories are worth noting and speaking about(to many, but not all).

And on the 12th minute of the 1st half, the ball name Fred ( made by Pigskin clone company was self aware. And tired of being in play. He released a fart letting an oz of air out)was kicked and grabbed by the opposing team. Halldritch was tackled at the 50 yards mark but Halldritch did know he had taken 3 hp of damage not two to knee. Becuase Hallritch was still hungover on Mad Dog 2021. As they lined back up Hallritch signaled to the other side that Jasper was going to throw long.

I would say a TRPG campaign has a chance to make a story as good as a good novel, at least from the point of view of the people at the table. I don't think the stories are exactly directly comparable, for a variety of reasons, but that's ... probably around the edges of your broader point, with which, to be clear, I do agree.

God I laughed. Ok. But it is not a game anymore now. It is a parody of a game. That is an other matter. My point still stand.
