D&D General Dmg previews up

I am on board now with the DMG not having variant rules. However, I still think it would be interesting if WotC published a UA book of variant rules. I would buy that.

There's inevitably going to be one or more Tasha's/Xanathar's style books in the relatively near future, simply because there's a lot of 2014 stuff to update to 2024. Those books mixed player options with DM's stuff, so we'll surely see something similar in the future.

But then what do your players do with their gold?

That's not a rhetorical question. What use does gold have in the 2014 rules as written? I've never seen any, at least not past very low levels.
That is one thing I really appreciate about the new PHB: adventuring gear can be very useful and worth investing in. However, most of it quite cheap to the loads of gold players end up with. Hopefully bastions will serve as a proper gold sink, or at least that the question of "what is money good for" is addressed in some capacity in the DMG

Well, to be fair, if your character is a wizard, you can probably do this.

Leveling. We require research and training (a downtime activity) to gain a level. This cost money. They also use it to gather information, bribe, living expenses, maintain equipment, etc.

But what about crafting rules to help bring down that gold glut?

And I'm assuming the bastion system will do so as well...
Right now, if my players need something crafted they pay for it (except magic items which can't easily be crafted in our games). Never needed rules for that myself, but I understand others like the idea and would find them useful.

Yes, but I would really prefer a UA book of just DM options and rule variants, separate from PC builds (classes, subclasses, etc.)
