DMG Treasure Table

Gunslinger

First Post
This table seems very stingy compared to starting gold. I rolled up treasure for a 5th level party, and the end result was 4600gp worth of treasure, which comes out to 1150go each. The adventure I was thinking of would have them all level up. Yet had they started at 6th level instead, they would have each recieved 13000gp rather than 9000, meaning they each get 4000 more. Shouldn't PCs get more treasure for actually adventuring than for creating a higher level character?

Either you had bad die rolls, you're using monster types who don't have much treasure, or you're doing something wrong.

A party should average about 13.3 encounters between levels. The expected value of the treasure on the 5th-level table (just counting coins, not goods and items) is 656 gp per encounter, or 8,746 gp over the course of the level (2,186 each).

Whether the goods and items actually do make up the theoretical 1600 gp per encounter at 5th level, I don't know, but clearly your roll was way under the statistical average on coins alone.

I knew I was doing something wrong. I'm glad this was just a test, not with my group. That's what happens when you neglect to read the part that says treasure per encounter...
