Do you carry a pocketknife?

Man...that seems odd.

I associate the US with being pretty free and easy with weapons in the hand sof their citizenry.

Here in Canada, if you're knife has a blade under 5 inches in length and only has one edge, then it is perfectly legal for you to carry it. Just about everyone I know has one.

Well sure, because in Canada you never know when you might have to fend off an attack by a moose or grizzly bear. :)

How do you know for sure that you know what you're doing with it if you've never had to use it before? Have you been professionally trained in some way? I'm just curious because, and I feel the same way about handguns, if you're going to pull something like that out in a crisis situation then you're almost forced to use it lest it be used against you somehow.

Training and practice with some local police officers.

....so you trained by stabbing and cutting the police? Are you sure you should draw that kind of attention to yourself? :D

I carry a knife on me only when I go fishing. Nothing fancy or memorable. I do have a friend whom makes knives and was looking to train to make swords.

I have a friend who wants to do the same thing. He said he'd make me an orc double-axe. :D

I carry one occasionally. The law here is that if the blade exceeds 4 and 1/2 inches and is not a folding blade, it's considered a weapon. That doesn't mean that you can't carry it, it just means that you can't conceal it. However, while I have sometimes carried a larger knife (hunting/fishing), I find that convenient store clerks get very nervous when they see one . So I leave it in my car.

Don't presently carry one, though as a kid I often did.

A couple of years ago- in fact, just before I went on my cross-country adventure where I met a bunch'a ENWorlders- I had a really bitchin' universal tool that I was going to take with me in case of need. Unfortunately, between the sniper and 9/11, the security was pretty tight and I had to give it up in order to get on a bus. :( Made me very unhappy, but I understood the thinking... I couldn't much argue with that.

I carry my Leatherman Micra everywhere. I used to have a Swiss Army knife which I carried through high school, but I misplaced it some years ago. It's illegal to have a pocketknife in school, but all of my teachers knew about it and used it often.
