Do you carry a pocketknife?

Multitools are quite common and I see them frequently. I used to carry one, but did not have a very strong case, so I keep it in my desk drawer or in my pocket. Further, the tool I have is kind of heavy, which feels odd on my belt, anyway. One day I wouldn't mind finding a light-weight multi to keep with a strong case, and acclimating to it.

Why a knife/multitool? Because I run into things that must be screwed, unscrewed, cut, measured, picked at, or clamped down on a daily basis. Heck, if I could, I'd carry a roll of duct tape on me, too. :)

I have a small swiss army knife on my keychain, and a larger gerber tool in a pouch on my backpack.

Just earlier today I used my swiss army knife to clean my fingernails and cut out a clipping from the newspaper, earlier this week I used them both to help a friend get her apartment in order as she moved in (the prior tenant made a mess of the place), like physically reconnecting the phone jack (which had been torn out of the wall), and reassembling some furniture that had been taken apart for transit.

I like to be well prepared for anything that could come along, that's why I also have a flashlight, duct tape, and a first aid kit in my backpack.

I had a little keyring multitool or sorts that I liked quite a bit and used very frequently, but when I forgot to take it off my keyring for a flight, it got confiscated.

I have another larger multitool, but I don't habitually wear it.

I carry a Swiss Army knife; have for most of the past decade.

Why? Opening packages (including, as crybaby noted, those annoying plastic shells they put small electronics in these days), having a handy bottle opener, tightening screws, using the nailfile, using the scissors in a pinch, etc.

Oh, and I love having the little toothpick, though, yes, I do rinse it off after I use it. ;)

Post 9-11, I can't bring it with me on planes anymore (nearly all of my flying doesn't involve checking luggage), and I always feel a little bereft without it.

I (almost) never carry a knife. I don't have a need for it.

When I do carry a knife, I have this big thing I carry around just because it's cool. :uhoh:

I carry one knife on me for cutting items and another which is a Swiss Army Tech Tool Knife (for pc geeks).

I use both on a daily basis.

I carry a swiss army knife everywhere I go. It gets used for opening packages more than anything, but the other tools come in quite handy (especially the flat blade screwdriver) for other work purposes. I also keep a small knife with a locking blade close by, after having the swiss army knife fold up on a piece of rubber tubing once and cutting my thumb open to the bone. Of course, the lock-blade is also useful if i want to kill someone and take their stuff  .

I carry a Swiss army knife (deluxe tinker) with an nice assortment of handy tools. I'd wanted one for years and kept hinting about it until someone finally gave it to me as a gift.

I always wear it in a holster at my belt next to my PDA. I got the PDA first and discovered that it was the perfect cerebral tool for me; kind of like a second brain of sorts. I wanted a Swiss army knife as a physical/manual equivalent of the PDA. I don't use it everyday necessarily, but it's just so great to have the right tool at hand when I do need it. I use the knife to open letters, the hook to comfortably carry bags home from the grocery store, the pliers and screwdrivers on occasion, but its the scissors I've found to be the most useful on a daily basis.

It's also comforting to carry the knife, folded closed, in the palm of my hand if I find myself walking home late at night.

Isn't quoting people out of context fun? ;) :D
