I was wondering if any of you let your guys start out as somthing higher level, or if I am also the only one on this. Example: I recently let two of my players start out as higher levels (12 & 13) so they would enjoy the gaming more. Do any of you do that as well?:uhoh:

In my 25+ years of gaming, I have found that starting from the beginning and working up can be interesting and rewarding, BUT sometimes players don't have that amount of time, sometimes they want to try toys (magic items, spells, skills) without spending months working up to it. It depends on my players and my time. So yeah, sometimes.

I think most of us have probably started games where characters began at levels other than 1st. Personally, I'd never start one at 12th or 13th (unless it was a one-shot). I don't find the high levels as fun, and starting that high would just accellerate the end of the campaign.

I agree, It is more rewarding, and it gives the characters more value to start from one, i just wanted to make sure that what I was doing wasn't some kinda cardinal sin against D&D.

Not to worry. The only cardinal sin in D&D is to not have fun playing the game.

The lowest I would start my pcs in a beginning campaign is 3 or 4, only because I feel that as an adventure that is the level where you first get your wing's under you.

I always make it a habit to start pcs at the lowest pcs's level. I think my players would be upset if i brougth someone in at a higher level (or equal) than them. I also do that because it gives newbies something to isntally shoot for in the campign

For the games I run, characters start at 2nd level. I would consider starting characters at higher level for a one-shot adventure, but never for anything resembling a campaign.
