body type

I am 5'5, 180 and unhappy about my weight. Short and stocky. A light dusting of back hair. I am one of those people with a sloooww metabolism -- gain weight easily but have a devil of a time losing it. I exercise three time a week for 45-60 minutes without fail. I've been trying to eat healthy and smaller portions, but it's very hard for me. I mostly eat poultry, fish, spinach, carrots, fruit, fig bars/cookies, bread, a little pasta (in red sauce) and rice. I like salty foods and cheese, but don't have a sweet tooth.

It took me 2 1/2 months to lose 10 pounds. Then I went on vacation for 8 days and gained 3 pounds back. :(

My body-type category is not there.

I am 6'1", weigh 195. I bike roughly 90-100 miles a week (bike to work every day, come rain or shine, and do a long ride every other week), swim 2 miles 2-4X/week, and lift weights 2-3X/week. My body fat always hovers around 9-11%. I am tan, because I swim outdoors, bike outdoors, of course, and hike a lot. I have short dark-blonde hair and blue-green eyes. I look like a swimmer/volleyball player/pitcher.

I generally eat very well. The only snack things I eat are chocolate and chips once in a while when I game. I do enjoy my beer, wine, whiskey, and tequila.

No, this is not a personals ad.

My choice of exercise was running, which you say doesn't agree with you. I mean all you really have to do is stay active, if running doesn't work for you, try just walking, or swimming or cycling or a million other things. One thing that helps is also finding someone to do it with, be it a friend or sigother.

The true geek way to excercise:

I've got my PS2 hooked up to a TV by my excercise bike. Playing something that takes a lot of concentration like a Square RPG makes 10 minutes to an hour (!) of riding the bike breeze by.

If you're really serious about doing this as part of a program, you'd probably need a timer, because occasionaly I just go until I can't peddle much more, which burns me out from time to time.

Still, I wonder if I can write video games off for a medical related writeoff :)

The Serge, although I don't exactly follow what you laid out, what I'm doing is pretty close in concept. I eat every 2-3 hours, small meals with protein and some carb. I make sure to get lots of veggies and fruit. I drink a lot of water. I haven't gotten to the exercise yet, but I am (and always have been) quite capable of walking fast for reasonable distances, as I take the bus everywhere. I've got about 100 pounds to lose still, but I'm 70 pounds into my loss, and it's all good so far.

One thing I find interesting here... I've always heard that lots of small meals, rather than a few full meals a day, is a good way to *build* weight. In fact, I remember reading somewhere that during the "gain 400 lbs" phase of sumo training, the aspiring wrestler snacks all day instead of eating regular meals at all (IIRC). I should really start doing that myself... I'm not exactly scrawny, but as I said before I could certainly stand to add a bit, and if I actually got off my butt and back in the pool, I could keep it toned. Which reminds me, for any of the beer-gut types around here looking to get rid of it: take up swimming. Do butterfly and backstroke in particular. A leisurely pace will get you nice shoulders, but put some spirit into it and you can get a better stomach workout than crunches will ever give you. :D

I am 6'1" and weigh 200 lbs. Lean, muscular and tanned. Short blonde hair (a bit longer than military cut), blue/green eyes.
My gaming friends good naturedly call me a "beast", or my DMs favorite "muscle beach." ::shrugs:: I really don't think of myself as "big" like they do (especially compared to some of the guys I have lifted with).
I have little to no body hair, and although I am 22 years old, I have very sparse facial hair. I can grow a thin goatee in just under 2 weeks.
Many people have told me that I am very attractive, and I have tried a bit of modeling (though I wasn't quite motivated enough to go anywhere with it).
I tend to enjoy most things in life, from mental based activities (gaming, reading, philosophy, etc) to physical (lifting/exercise, sports, etc.), social (any), and spiritual (missions work, etc.). I listen to a lot of music, from Contemporary Christian, to Classical, to Modern Rock and some Death Metal. My apologies if this is looking like some sort of "personal". Most of this is just to say that, I guess I don't fit the mold of "typical" gamer. Friends from my church know me as the gaming guy (among other things), while gaming friends know me as a "religious" (and see above) guy.
I am happy to see some of my friends from church start gaming, playing Magic:TG with me, and a few have started D&D. And also to see gaming friends recognize the good/importance of moral direction and purpose for their lives.
Err, yeah, I chose option 3, but don't think that description fits entirely.

My weight does tend to fluctuate +/- about 5-7 lbs on a weekly basis. Does this happen to anyone else?

I am not a guy but this does happen to me a lot. It's very strange, but I attribute it to having had extremely high metabolism up to about age 25 (pretty close to 27 now) and now having varied diet (some weeks I eat a lot more than others) and varied excercise.
