I was doing some unpacking and found an old robotech character from about 6 years ago. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep as I don't play the game anymore and have given away all my books.

So, do you keep characters from past games? Even the ones you know will never be used again? Or from gaming systems you don't plan on going back to? Many of us have been gaming for over 20 years, that can be quite a few characters.

I have a binder of ancient PCs, some of them nearly 20 years old.

I have a paladin my brother and I "rolled" up when we were 12. No stat lower than a 16, and 2 18s. When my son tried to show me his Ubermonk, 18,18,17,16,14,12, and told me he just rolled lucky, I pulled out Ms. Phibes. Hey! I know all those cheating tricks, can't use 'em on me!

I let him play the monk anyway.

PS

Yes & no. I still have my characters from the first edition of Chill as well as my "100 characters that the DM wanted to kill off in 100 sessions" (they were resurrected as other characters who made it in other games). I didn't keep my Star Frontiers or Top Secret characters.

I still have about 80% of the D&D characters I've ever played. A few of the earliest ones have dates on them. Those are very depressing and I don't like to look at them.

One character sheet I burned in a campfire at an outdoor gaming session after he was retired. I regret doing that and will never intentionally destroy a character sheet again.

Seems whenever I played non-D&D games the GM was always the type to keep character sheets for the players, so except for one Top Secret character, I don't have any non-D&D ones.

I have usually GMed - Not only do I keep characters, I keep maps, adventures - A few days ago I even found a few scraps of paper with private notes players in a campaign I ran just before 2e came out.

I've still got a ton of my old characters, and I get that comforting breeze of nostalgia every time I run across one. It did make packing a true chore the last time I moved. I'm cleaning and arranging things, and look... it's my old character that became Grandfather of Assassins... *sigh* =)

Oooops, I thought you were talking about having characters from previous campaigns show up in the following campaigns and answered no.

I didn't realize you were talking about character sheets - that'll teach me not to read the full post before voting. :o

Count one less "never" and one more "almost always".

I've got all my character from over 20 years ago, been GMing for the past 16ish and have all the maps, adventures, campaign notes, things scribbled on napkins too... ask my wife, she keeps trying to get me to throw some of it away... ;)

I have probably around 20 old character sheets. I like to get them out from time to time and remember the good old days. My favorite activity is trying to guess where the various food stains on each sheet originated. I also enjoy the worn out hole that exists in the hit point section of alot of them.
