Do you need high stats to be an effective character?

Not counting racial bonuses, how high an attribute do you need to be effective?

Seeten, it seems like your idea of "good" roleplaying only includes characters of one specific type (smart, wise, and charismatic). I think you're cutting yourself out of a lot of other role-play opportunities, as the characters your describe are usually not actually that interesting to everyone else at the table.

I have lots of concepts that I havent tried. Not all of them require high Int + high wis + high charisma. I can do wise, but earthy, Charismatic but not bright, Intelligent and Cynical/caustic. I have no interest in big, dumb, unwise and foolish.

I dont claim it cant result in good times, or in fun rp, but *I* dont find it fun, and I play to have fun. We have a half-orc in one game who calls my mage "My friend who has all the friends in his pockets." Everytime I cast mirror image, he says, "Your friends are back!" He says it all in a deep voice, too. Very good rp, cool character, well done, not my cup of tea.

To each their own. I wouldnt tell anyone to not play a character whose highest stat was 6, if they wanted to. But I have no interest in it personally.

Well, quite frankly, I dont think I saw you at our gaming table for the last session, but if I didnt lead the party, and I didnt have social skills, who would? Its me or nobody in my group. I guess we could kill everyone instead of ever speaking, and try to hide the bodies/speak with dead to get information, but that seems just as bad as the alternative.

I never said that "Good" roleplaying involved anything. Its been everyone else talking about dinner theatre, and rejects. All I said was I dont like the roles that 10's in the mental stats pigeon hole me into.

On the SWD20 "Force powers relate to wis and cha" they do, for stat bonus. But the stat bonus modifies the ranks, and the ranks come from skill points, which int modifies. Some use int for stat bonus too, but if you want to be a good jedi, able to do most or all disciplines, you need a TON of skill points. Luke does everything, thus, he is either brilliant, or George Lucas is a big ole cheater. See Quasqueton's thread on cheating DM's who dont follow the rules for more on this. ;)

I personally think that Jedi should be more like monks and be special feats/abilities that they can choose from. Maybe get 1 every level. Maybe 2.

Have skills that can modify them.

really does not matter as WOTC does not appear to be truthfully supporting the RPG with new releases anyway.

Well, if your stats are too low, as a caster, you can't cast your higher level spells. And as a Fighter, you can't qualify for the better feats.

At high levels though it is not hard to get stat boosts for the spell casters. And fighters don't have that many great feats that need a high attribute.
