D&D General Do You Use "D&D" As Code For "RPGs"?

I just got off a zoom call fro work and at the very end I realized that my displayed name was that of the last character I played over Zoom. That game happened to be a playtest for a con game we were running in TriStatDx.

However, when I referenced the incident to a general audience (my FB feed) I said it was the name of my last "D&D character" automatically. I realized that I do this a lot with my "normie" community. They know what D&D is (at least as much as anyone paying attention to pop culture lately does) and they know that i play it. If I had said TriStatDx it would have been confusing and (most importantly) less funny.

So, just out of curiosity, how often and under what circumstances or with what subgroups of your social circle do you use "D&D" as code for "RPGs in general" if at all?

I'm about 50/50 on saying either TTRPGs or A game like D&D, depending on how interested I think the other person is / how much of a conversation I feel like having. I don't think I've ever used D&D to refer to some completely other game, like Kleenex for tissue.

I use it quite some times, but it doesn't always help explain things. Might be in part due to where I live, though (Europe).

I use the "a game like D&D" version, though, or "an old version of D&D" for OSR stuff.

I only use it generically with my family who don't really want to hear the nuances of Dungeon World, Blades in the Dark, Mothership, Shadowdark, etc. It's all just D&D to them.

"Alright, see you later, I'm off to play D&D."

I cannot remember a single time when I have used D&D as code for RPG.

I have occasionally used "game convention" when I am going to a house con or larping event.
