Doc Midnight's STILL cutting Character Illustration commission prices in HAAAALF!

And Doc Midnight is goooood. Heck, this is less than he charged me for... err... I probably shouldn't say. Favors.
NOTHING! Nothing! In fact, it's on-topic, as roleplaying was involved. So. Nothing. Nothing.

I have some questions.

1) How are the images delivered? Is it digital or an actual rendering in the mail. I can say that I'd pay more for something that I can hang in my gamming room for years to come.

2) What size are the drawings?

3) What if we want black & white or line drawings? I personally cannot draw to save my life but I do a pretty good job with adding color to line drawings (lots of time spent in detention in high school). So if I could get a line drawing for like $20 I'd be more likely to do that then a fully completed one for $50. Besides then I could get a couple of generic ones done and color them differently for different characters.

Drawmack-

1) Digitally, with the original in the mail if you want it. The thing is that the original is B&W, which doesn't look quite as wondrous (I think).

2) Well, as digital, I have a copy at 300 dpi, maybe ten inches high. I usually deliver a nine or ten inch high 72 dpi jpeg. The actual art is maybe 10x12, varying.

3) I can of course do the B&W drawings, but at the lowered prices, doing a line drawing for you would only run maybe ten dollars lower than the colored.

Just attempting to understand why the pricing would stay almost the same.

Isn't there a huge difference in supplies and time investment between a full color rendering and a line drawing?

Nope... in fact, the coloring is entirely digital, so no supplies are used up. It's just a matter of time, and what my time is worth to me. My usual price for B&W is $75, so $40 is almost half.

The difference is that I'm doing it for gamers here... throwin' some love around for my ENworlders.

A noble sentiment! :)

There should be another difference in what you'd expect clients to want to pay - the commercial client is making an investment that he expects to recoup, with interest. The guy who buys the CD cover, or the meaty commercial piece is putting the art in to boost sales. The thoroughly hopes or expects to earn the expenditure back. The gamer buying a character sketch is saying goodbye to that money for good.

Hey Dr. Midnight, these look great! I think your prices are good, maybe a little low (the $100 price I mean, $50 is a serious steal!). $100+ is what I would charge for a full color piece and I don’t think I’m as good at digital coloring as you are (it would take me longer to get something of about the same quality as it would for you).

However, I’m appalled at some of the comments you are getting about your prices being too expensive.

The fact that you are offering the original is amazing; I would never do that for the price you are charging. If someone wanted the original I would charge anywhere from $300 - $500 or even more depending on what it was and even then I would be reluctant.

Doc... as usual, your work is amazing :).

How much detail can I give you about the character's to illustrate them? The "feel" of the character's is important to me, but I'm not overly picky, don't worry. I'm a graphic designer and I know how annoying an overly-picky customer can be. So if I can give you some info on the personalities and style it would be helpful. I'm interested in doing an illustration of two characters together, mine and my girlfriends. I'd be more then willing to pay more for a bit of extra-detail and general coolness. I am very interested in this... so let me know what you need and I'll supply all that I can. I'm hoping to have it as a Valentines gift, would such a thing be possible?

And what payment method do you take? Paypal best?
