Doctor Who 60th Anniversary Specials [[SPOILERS!!]]

Well, that was... maybe not one I should have watched after midnight. Doctor Who has a knack for doing unsettling very well for a family drama series.

My only complaint is that the Doctor and Donna wound up feeling rather superfluous to the resolution of the plot. They introduced a complication and then resolved it, seemingly the situation would have played out to the same end without them.

That was pretty good! I do like it when Doctor Who does creepy.

I see the budget means a lot more flying TARDIS shots. I do have soft spot for the traditional stationary materialisation though.

I love just how easily the TARDIS is able to go anywhere. Quadrants, galaxies? Nah, we go to the very edge of the entire universe like we're going to the kitchen to get a cup of tea!

Does everybody in the Whoniverse say "mavity" now?

Great to see Wilf one last time, even if only briefly.

Only one more Tennant episode. I wish we could have a bit more time with him and Donna. Ah well, Ncuti Gatwa will be awesome--and I assume the regeneration is next week. Then it will be just two weeks until the Xmas Special.

I liked the creepiness of this episode, although I'm sure the astrophysicists got a headache with the "edge of the universe" stuff. (To be fair, everyone but astrophysicists gets a headache when hearing how the universe doesn't have an "edge," despite it all expanding, sort of, from one point.)

I assume the "mavity" joke will be resolved next week. Doctor Who can blow up the universe and have aliens show up in public multiple times, but they will definitely put back in the toy box anything that would be annoying to include in future dialogue.

Very glad that we end with a Wilf episode. My heart grew three sizes seeing him at the end.

I also like that we've now established a reason that the Doctor might not have access to his magic wand sonic screwdriver or TARDIS in future episodes, just when he needs them the most. A nice corrective to the power creep the sonic has gotten this century.

I suspect that, and actually the bit in the CiN special about canon and the timelines fracturing, is a clue to something going wrong with the universe. I half expect them to push a literal Reboot button for the universe, in preparation for heading into this new Season One next year.
