Love and Monsters is an episode which really divides opinion, I think there are few people who think, oh it's okay or it may just be that it provokes those who love or hate it to comment unlike some other episodes.
Yeah, I became aware of the divise controversy over this episode and was quite surprised, as it really hit the spot for me. It's quite a departure from the usual Dr Who approach, so I can see where the criticisms are coming from. I don't think that you could do that kind of episode very often. I'd even say that it should be a one-of-a-kind, as I felt that much of its impact came from its unique approach. It incorporated some of the same issues that came up in Girl in the Fireplace, which I felt was one of the most touching episodes I have seen in years. Overall, I've been really pleased to see that the producers of the show are not averse to trying out lots of different methods. Mostly, it works. And then you get an episode like Fear Her, which I thought was pants.
