Does anyone find that...

That they identify a lot with a character in a book or movie that most people hate? For myself, to draw an example from an anime called Fushigi Yugi. Most people seemed to find the main character, Miaka, whiny and annoying. But, i found myself sympathizing with her. And this happens to me with almost every book, movie or show. So, do you find yourself identifying with characters most people hate?

Typically the sort of thing that Doctor Doom would utter. While I'm not going to threaten superscientific devastation of the Free World any time soon, I'm certainly finding myself wondering precisely how close I am in ethical mindset to such characters... I find myself agreeing with people who seem to make omelets by breaking eggs.

Yeah, this happens to me.

Take ER for example. Everybody I know hates Romano (and so are happy with recent events), but wish I had is cajones.

Same thing with Dr. Cox on Scrubs.

I have the same disdain for banal niceties that those two characters had, yet I do not have their job security, so I can't tell off my coworkers like they can.

I liked Romano a lot more when before they played up his racist/misogynist tendencies. He had the core of a redeemable, 3-dimensional person, but the last season or so the writers just turned him into a cartoon.

As for Scrubs, I'm Turk on my best days, but I'm probably Dr. Cox (that is, irritable and condescending, not super-competent) the other 90% of the time.

If anyone, I'm probably Xander from Buffy. Kind of a fifth wheel, but a fifth wheel with 20" rims and spinners like in the rap videos with the Escalades and the bling-bling and the nice Mr. Nelly don't bust a cap on my hoyvennnnn.

EDIT: And now I'm apparently Professor Frink. Who knew?

I have to disagree with this. In the last season he was dealing with losing his arm, which prevented him from being the outstanding (and arrogant) surgeon he had always been to that point. Having that taken away from him turned him into even more of a bitter, angry, hateful bastard. He couldn't do the one thing he was good at, so he took it out on everyone else. That's a pretty realistic reaction, if you ask me.

I can really identify with Sauron from LotR. Just because the "good guys" think he is evil does not make him so. He wanted to unify all of Middle Earth. He had ambtion, drive, and vision. Middle Earth would have been a better place with just one person in charge.

I try to tell ladies I'm like Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Carribean, becuase of course everyone loves Captain Jack, but for some reason they don't trust me.
