This is an electronic message board. Crothian is right. We are all dispensible and would hardly be missed. Only people with whom you establish in person relationships will really miss you if you go away.

To be fair, there are, what? 12000 people here on the boards. In a town of 12 thousand you can't possibly know everyone. Some people I form friendships with, others I only know as casual acquaintances. Some, like you, I had managed not to notice even though you've obviously been around, what with your nearly 3,000 posts.

Honestly, the easiest ways to be memorable on the boards are to either a) have a unique personality, or b) have a unique look. Having a memorable sig worked for Teflon Billy. Cyberzombie always had a cute woman in his sig. Don't get me started on Airwolf.

Posting the first storyhour worked for Piratecat. Hong makes fun of things, Diaglo raves about old school D&D, and I act the gold-digger by always trying to promote my writing with E.N. Publishing.

In more recent memory, Acquana's started doing a drawing a day, doing sketches of people's characters. There are three or four guys who post a lot on the E.N. Publishing forum who I recognize when I see their avatars, even though I don't remember their screen names off hand (I tend to be bad with names).

Also, starting threads gets a lot more attention than responding to them, or so I've noticed. So don't be depressed, please. You've got friends here, or at the very least you can get friends here with very little effort if you just ask.

Oh, and seriously, nothing endears you more to another poster than going to their storyhour or art thread and saying you like their work. I swear, I need to find me a pretty storyhour-writing girl, tell her how compelling her work is, and I'd be set. And a little evil for taking advantage of the same desire for fame I know I have.

*grin* So, Megamania, what's on your mind?

No seriously. You are POPULAR here. Either I am mnore depressed than I orginally thought or I am the scum of the world...... :(

In January circumstanjces keeped me from the boards for a couple weeks. No one noticed or at least said anything about it anywhere on the boards. Out of sight, out of mind. There have been a few threads wondering where peiople have gone, But I can only recall 3 like that in the past year.

Heh. I don't even have 200 posts yet. I'm nothing in this world of EnWorld. But then again, I enjoy my few minor posts and generally try to be a little helpful instead of posting three times in a row saying three different things or posting with single words and stuff. Would EnWorld miss me or anyone comment on it? No. Would I miss EnWorld or comment on it? Yes, and if I commented on it, I wouldn't really be away from EnWorld, now would I? :)

At least it's better than people WANTING you gone.

Megamania,

I disappear every Fall for two or three months during football season and nobody notices. However, when I come back and make a post to my art thread or story hour they usually all say welcome back.

I guarantee you there are at least a few fans and lurkers who check out your story hour and you may never hear from them. That point was driven home to me a couple of years ago when I went to GenCon and a guy came up to me and started asking questions about my storyhour. He knew an amazing amount of detail and was noteven a registered member - at least he had never posted on the site.

That said, there will be times you'll need to disappear because of RL, but ENWorld will be warmly waiting your return.

Where is Horatio the story hour addict these days?

Personally I assume that the person has been sidetracked by real life, as I am wont to.

And about the familiar-and-recognised sig: D'Oh, I just changed mine, now no one wil know me ... oh, well. The old kitten-in-a-dryer is S'mon's anway.

D'You hear that, S'mon? We're talking about you!!!

Or rather, I am.
