I'm not that familiar with FR, but I always wondered.

There is many human "etnicity" in FR (see RoF) but they are all the same "rule-wise" (except for feat/PrC pre-requesite)

Skeptic's right. FR has three-five ethnic groups for humans. Most of them were either pre-Netherse or Netherese humans that later on intermixed with each other. Some became extinct (Like the Nars to a civilized degree) while others change (Rashamen and Raumuth(sp).)

Yep, there are different ethnicities in FR. No real rule differences. Different regions give access to different cultural perks, but a given ethnicity can be spread across several regions.

The Deep Imaskari are Humans, and they have different stats and abilities than normal Humans.

Maybe they don't count :)

Didn't Races of Faerun have feats for certain ethnic groups? (You had to pay feat slots; you didn't get racial bonuses just for being born in Thay, for instance.)

FR has enough ethnic groups that look like real-life ethnic groups (eg Mulhorandi) that it's not a good idea to pursue rules differences. It might look like racism, and better safe than sorry.

When Races of Faerun came out, it broke down the humans into a variety of ethnic groups, the like of which had only been ever hinted at before. While the FRCS broke down huamsn by region, it never really broke it down into ethnic groups.

So, using a real-life analogy, while the British Isles and Gaul both had the Celtic peoples living there, the main "CS book" for this celtic game didn't acknowledge that they were of the same culture in a mechanical fashion - rather their regional feats and such might be simlar, plus it might mention that there was a large majority of celtic peoples there. Then when Races of Europe came out, it broke it down in a more clear fashion, and even gave specific feats which only celtic people could take.

Thus, Raes of Faerun was a pretty neat book in that niche it created for itself, and gave an amazing amount of decription for human ethnicities. This was continued into the 3.5-branching book, Players Guide to Faerun in a lesser manner, where some of the feats were revised slightly, and all avaliable feats from a region where listed, plus ethnicities and such.

Possibly my favourite part, in a nerdy sort of way, was how the % of a certain ethnicity lived in a region was listed in Races of Faerun. It was a great spot of detail that was both interesting and helpful, in some ways more than others.

Not being a Greyhawk Player or DM, I can't say how much that this compares to the breakdown in that CS, but in Forgotten Realms, that is how it works, more or less.

Hope that helps!

cheers,
