This poll is similar to the "Does your dwarf warrior use an axe?" poll. It seems that in fantasy, elves are always using either a sword or a bow (or crossbows, in the case of D&D drow). So, this thread was created to see just how true that stereotype is.

Normally, yes. Sometimes, no.

Our current party has an elven archer with longbow and shortsword. And a half elf/half orc fighter with a bastard sword...

Generally it's a yes.

IMC (Moldvay Basic/Expert), elves are an NPC race of tribal barbarians (basically wild elves) who live in the forests outside scattered human settlements. Feathers & beads in their hair, hunting and gathering, etc. They have a neo-shamanistic religion and magic. The traditional weapons of elves (and PC half-elves) are bow and spear. So, technically yes, my elves do use bow and/OR a sword. But they don't fit the Tolkien/D&D mold of elves. The "tolkienesqe" elves (grey elves) of my setting were wiped out by orcs (also tribal barbarians) over three centuries ago.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Depends upon the character.

It also happens to be true with the half-elf and human characters I play. I guess it might be because they are good weapons and are relatively common.

3 of 4 elves use a spiked chain - frickan overpowered uber weapon.
"oh hey i get 4-5 combat reflex attacks arnt I the S**t"
not that Im bitter or anything I would love a few sword and bow elves.
