Don't shop at CompUSA

I'm looking to put some more RAM in my computer. On the CompUSA site, they have the RAM I want for $87.30, but in the store, its $119.99. I have a print out of the site with the lower price. They refused to match the lower price, even though its from they're own site. They lie and mislead people. Don't shop there.

Then buy it online! :D

I HAVE to shop at CompUSA. They are the only Apple dealer in town. Granted, I am on good terms with the Apple rep there and drop by a few times a week, just to chat, see what's new, and help answer Mac-related questions if Mike isn't there.

I agree that from a consumer's perspective this seems deceptive, but many retailers have online-only offers. While some will honor the online price in-store, not all do. The better companies will eventually realize that consumers see the two as the same, and act accordingly.

They haven't lied or mislead anyone. Their online store offers different prices than their physical locations. This is true of many companies that have online stores and physical ones.

The physical stores can't be expected to compete with the online stores in terms of prices.

I don't have a credit card or checking account, I can't buy online. I should have put that in my orginal post.

Don't you have friends/parents who do? Just give them the money and have them order it for you.

Unless it was specifically stated that the price you were looking at was valid at a store, there is absolutely no obligation to give you that price at a store. For example you can't even take an add from some CompUSA in California and expect it to be honored at a store in Indiana. The web sites for nearly all companies are separate operations from the stores and until the inventory networks improve substantially they pretty much have to be.

I worked at a CompUSA for nearly 6 years. Nobody working at a Store is out there to screw you over on prices or trying to pull bait and switch in any situation that I can remember. Most employees just want you to get out of the store and stop harrasing them. Since the quickest way to do that is to sell you what you want, there's no incentive for them to be difficult about selling it to you.

Frequently stores are not provided with sufficient quantities to fullfil demand for items, but that is an issue at the corporate level. Not the fault of the individual store or the employees there. If you want to bitch about that sort of thing, bitch to the corporate department not to the hapless peon who is stuck dealing with obnoxious customers all day. They take all the abuse and don't get any of the rewards.

Napoleon has a wonderful quote that explains most problems that you might experience at a Comp, "Never attribute to Malice what can sufficiently be explained by incompetence or stupidity".

There are so many reasons NOT to shop at a CompUSA, ignorant, stupid and lethargic employees, poor inventory tracking, irrational pricing, bad products/selection, etc... Its kind of silly to complain about things that aren't the fault of the store.

Well, no one in the brick and mortar store is trying to screww someone, however, who ever is pricing those cables back at corporate is right bastard.

I have to agree with Rackhir, KenM - what you have described is a common business practice at Office Depot, Staples, and many other online/brick&mortar retailers.

Different stocking practices, different overheads, and different clientele make for different prices between the two venues. It may seem shady, but it's a business fact.

Borders is a perfect example: Amazon prices on the web, full retail in the stores. The massive difference in overhead makes it a logical business reality.

I try not to buy from CompUSA for a different reason, that being that when I have asked them to reserve games or to learn the date it was going to hit the shelves, they consistently lie or have no idea what I'm talking about.
