Doom of the Savage Kings

Lizt looked at the badger. And then at the ghoul. Her eyes went wide with fear when she realized she could no longer hear Homer. Wanting to be away from both the ghoul and the badger teeming at her back, Lizt grunted and shrank back against the narrow tunnel, out of the badger's way. She prayed silently that the damned beast made for the ghoul and not her.

Panic started to set in. Copper filled the air as Homer bled out. The tunnel shrank, seemed myopic. The ghoul lurched that much closer, baring its fangs. And the cloying musk of the badger swam in Lizt's eyes, clouded her senses. She scrunched shut her eyelids, prayed some more, and froze.

Badger's attack: [roll0]]
Badger's damage [roll1]

Badger darts through the first open chance to get to the ghoulie thing. He don't care, he's a honey badger!

The badger leaps forward and tears into the dead flesh of the ghoul. It ignores Lizt but it isn't quite so easy for Lizt to ignore the badger; the animal's bristly fur brushes against her as it attacks the undead creature.

The ghoul is beginning to come apart but it still has enough cohesion to claw at the badger. The badger screams in pain then flops against Lizt. Something warm and liquid starts to soak into Lizt's clothing and she can feel the rancid breath of the ghoul as it turns towards her.

[sblock=OOC]Welcome back, CanadienneBacon!

Everyone is up. Only Lizt can reach the ghoul.

"Lizt! keep coming back! I will try and summon another badger!", calls hank

Franko hops impatiently from one foot whining like a puppy wanting to see his pet human.

Lizt's eyes flew open. She screamed. And flung the bloodied badger corpse off her legs. The ghoul leered, close at hand. Lizt's breath came short and fast. She grasped her shortsword by the grip and lunged forward at the ghoul, slashing haphazardly and giving free rein to hysteria.

[roll0] and [roll1]

Lizt takes the jaw off the ghoul with her wild swing. It collapses and all is quiet in the closeness of the tunnel. For a second. As Lizt watches the corpse begins to convulse as if preparing to vomit up some new horror.

Lizt scurried forward, her eyes glued to the horror on the tunnel floor as the ghoul re-animated. She made for Homer, taking her eyes off the ghoul long enough to quickly assess the Halfling's damage. "Homer? Homer!" Lizt shook the Halfling, trying to get him to wake.
[sblock=OOC]Can Lizt stabilize Homer somehow? She has Luck 14 and is willing to use it, if that will somehow magically help. I checked her character sheet and she doesn't really seem to have much else that seems to apply to this situation.[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]The ghoul is between Lizt and Homer. Lizt will have to crawl over the ghoul in order to get to him; there is no way to avoid it. Just want to make sure you know what is required in order to get to Homer.

Once there, Lizt might be able to make a skill check to bind wounds but it is too late for Homer.

Re: Bleeding out. A PC has rounds = level after falling to zero hit points to be healed and saved from death. It will be longer than one round by the time Lizt can get to Homer, unfortunately. Homer is dead. Or is he?

Re: Recovering the Body. If the body can be recovered within one hour the PC may not be dead. Homer can make a Luck check when his body is recovered. If successful, he was badly injured but not killed and recovers to 1 hit point.

Using Luck can only be done for your own rolls unless you are a halfling. Only halflings can expend Luck for other people's rolls.[/sblock]

[sblock=ooc]Just confirming that, yes, Lizt is going to crawl over the ghoul to get to Homer. She will also try to drag Homer back to the group, which probably means a second trip over top of the ghoul. Yuck.

If the ghoul gets back up and looks like it is going to attack, however, Lizt will not try to drag Homer to safety. She will either drop Homer and run further down the tunnel away from the ghoul (and further away from the party), or she will drop Homer and fight her way past the ghoul back toward the party.

We might end up with two dead characters. :/[/sblock]

For those waiting in the room below the crawlspace there is the muffled sound of a struggle within the tight tunnel, a scream that is certainly from Lizt, and then silence. Something might be moving within but whether it is Lizt or Homer or whatever thing it is that attacked them is uncertain.

Lizt crawls over the ghoul. She can't help but touch the vile thing and its skin and bones seem rubbery and weak. Coiled within and struggling to extract itself from the corpse is something long and heavy like a thick hawser. As Lizt passes over the ghoul she notices the tunnel above where the ghoul broke through.

She squeezes next to Homer and shakes him. Behind her the corpse ruptures and a hideously scaled snake struggles to free itself. She has but a moment to decide what to do before the creature is free and able to attack.

[sblock=OOC]Homer can make a Luck check to see if he survived: 1d20, must get lower than Luck score.

Ghoul Serpent: AC 14, hp 15/15
