There's something totally wrong on one of the pics from the Exalted Deeds Book.

There's a redeemed villain.

And it's a female mind-flayer.

(Insert bikini mind-flayer pic from Asgard #7)

More seriously, illithids are hermaphrodite like snails, so they can't be female or male.

While technically true, illithids in the "tadpole" stage crawl into a host body, eat its brain, and then merge with the host body, transforming it into the adult mind flayer form via a process called ceremorphosis. (All of this is courtesy of The Illithiad.) Thus, a female host organism would create an adult illithid with female attributes, even though the illithid itself doesn't use its adult gender in the way that host organisms do. (A female illithid wouldn't get pregnant and give live birth, for instance.)

I grant you, though, the sight of a "female" illithid is rather jarring.

Richards, mind if I ask when we will see a new adventure from you in the line of Golgordand's Gauntlet, or the Challenge of the Champions adventures? Personally, I would love to see more of the great traps, riddles, and mysteries you are so good at writing.

The pics from the Draconomicon alone are almost awesome enough to make me want to buy it.

My copy of the Draconomicon came yesterday. I've skimmed parts of it so far, but I've went through it five times just admiring the artwork. Easily the most beautifull illustrated D&D book ever, IMO. Worth the money just for the artwork.

This exact topic came up on another forum I frequent, specifically wondering if WotC was ignoring past published material or simply forgot about it.

My response there was almost exactly like what Richards wrote.
