Dresden Files RPG PreRelease?

The thing that bugged me was hearing that somebody decided to leak the PDF. I wish people would have better ethics about this kind of thing. A company with such a progressive attitude (PDF preview before print release) ends up getting jerked around by selfish people. :(

Ugh... I wonder what's the excuse this time? Because sticking it to the man doesn't hold much water when you're screwing a small and nice company such as Evil Hat...

I would, but a couple of my friends are the owners of the FLGS, and I do 90% of my business through them. Gotta support my friends and the FLGS in this economy.
Evil Hat are doing some kind of link with game stores, so you might want your friends to make contact and see if they can offer the pre-order+pdf deal - I think that's what Evil Hat want to be able to happen.

I preordered it. I'm still in the process of reading it, but I can say a few things about it.

First off, the pdfs are gorgeous. The art, layout and feel of them are very evocative of the setting. It's written from the perspective of the Alphas (a group of roleplaying werewolfs in Chicago) and Harry and Bob add highligts and notes for the text throughout the book. I think it's brilliant and hilarious.

I've yet to play it, but from what I've read I think the magic system is fantastic. I might be able to post more about it in a bit, but it is really flexible and dynamic.

The setting book is extremely detailed. These books are definitely a labor of love.

I'll post more later as I digest it - they are about 700 pages combined :)

Friday and Saturday, 11am.

Yeah, I'm aware NOW that most games go 4 hours and most people set their games on even hour slots, so that if you go at 10am you can catch the 2pm games...

It's not as big an issue as you might think. I know some people complain about it but most gamers like an hour or so between events to hit the hall or get food. 11am games are a good starting time I think.

Not to mention the fact that, in addition to the PDF being released before print in a "draft" before you buy it, there have been many previews of the game on the game's web site, they had a sample chapter free on the site, and they are using the FATE system which is covered under an OGL license, you can preview the basic system (although not the spellcasting rules right now) on another site in an SRD--which means that the non-licensed stuff will likely be in its own SRD in the future.

There's a breakdown of the costs involved with the product on Fred Hick's blog.

At this stage, I will say that I think the DFRPG is my favorite gaming system, ever. I really enjoy the way that mental/physical/social conflicts use the same engine, just deciphering different skills. And the system can be adjusted to accommodate other rules; it's an engine to build upon.

Thing is, finding a game si going to be tough for me. :/
