This might be a problem indeed. I'd like to avoid challenging him first, but if he strikes down on me, I'd rather be ready and able to give him a run for his money. I won't stop the negociations with the Fangs of Lolth, not because they're muscle for my "social ascension", but because they told me they know something that could be devastating to my hierarchical superior. So chances are, since I won't give in to his ultimatum, he will continue to the "or" side of its "either you stop this, or..."
