D&D 5E druid wild shape question

I have a druid that took the path where you get wild shape. I believe path of the moon. He shifts in to a brown bear which is a large creature so a 2x2 square. The problem I have and can't find the question to is this, when he shifts into the bear. often times there are pc's and enemies around him in a tight space lets say a hallway, he shifts but does not have a 2x2 space because of enemies and Pc's. so do I push them in the closest space available , or make him squeeze? ty all for your time and answers.

By default, he pushes them out of the way. If they want to resist the push, I'd use opposed Athletics (Str) checks and the loser gets pushed. If the druid is pushed back into the PC's, they can resist with an Athletics check, if both the PC's and the enemies beat the druid, the druid is squeezing.

Totally the DM's call. I think most DM's would say push, but I feel it depends on the situation. If you'd have to push someone into someone else (or a wall), then you're squeezing in the space with them instead. I also wouldn't allow the growth into an enemy space, unless there is no other choice (such as being surrounded by enemies), since that kind of forced movement could be abused.

Edit: also I think by RAW you don't move anyone (you can share allies space, but cannot stop there), but must move until you no longer end your movement on another creatures space. Kinda silly IMO, but so is RAW.

I rule they are squeezing. Otherwise, this is effectively a free 4 square shove that can push enemies into hazards....not the intention. The onus should be on the wild shaper to have sufficient room. And given that an actual large creature does NOT physically take up a 2 x2 space area, that is only its ideal combat area, I think my interpretation makes more sense.

It's if creatures that will move out of the way I will say they move out of the way. It would be different if it were a wall or something. In that case I would it's like polymorph. If you don't have the room you can't change.

If you don't have room, you have to follow the rules of squeezing (PHB pg 192). They are pretty rough - you need to spend 1 extra foot for each foot you move, have disadvantage on attacks and Dex saves, and attacks against you have advantage.

Moral of the story: If you're going to turn into a bear, make sure you have enough room to do so.
